I just read that Ma wants to boycott the China Olympics if he becomes president, and the DPP slammed him for it. Shouldn’t it be the other way around?
It will be a great thing to do to show support of Tibet…imagine the drama though…

Hsieh also wants to postpone the election to show solidarity with Tibet. WTF? Doesn’t a peaceful, democratic election and possible change of power send a much better message than postponing democracy?
chinese Taipei want to boycott the olympics? Isn’t what china want?
The ‘cool looking’ guy have proved one more time his great skill
Actually, I would prefer that the Taiwanese teams do not participate in the Olympics, especially given the rising tensions. Those games will be an embarrassment -politically speaking, I am not doubting the organizational or turistic abilities- to the PRC’s government, and we all know what happens when Chinese people lose face.
The Taiwanese athletes will face an antagonistic crowd. At best they will be hummilliated, at worst we can have anotehr Munich. And this without factoring in if any misguided mind wants to “express themselves” in any way that is not protocolary.
In this case, the boicot’s purpose is not to “punish or reject” the other side, but for safety reasons. That is valid and “face-saving”. Ma’s reasonsing? Dunno.
As to Hsieh’s statement, I think it has more to do with buying time for the situation in Tibet to get worse and henece generate more support, therefore I do not think it is the right thing to do. If he had wanted more support, he should have canvassed it himself earlier, and not wait for another last minute deux ex machina.
What an incredibly stupid suggestion! If anyone still had any lingering doubts about Hsieh’s unfitness for the presidency, they should have been firmly convinced of it now.
I suppose it just shows his desperation - knowing that there are less than two days left until his ignominious rejection by the electorate becomes an official fact and his status in Taiwan’s politics is diminished to zero, he’ll clutch at any straw to postpone that most painful day of reckoning in his mean, grubby and unillustrious political career.
I agree with the sentiments posted. MYJ took the political opportunity to shine among the light green moderates and light blue moderates.
Hsieh, there are rumors he’s closing the gap, but I think those rumors are started by his own camp.
My school is in the same street as the FBI…and today I could hardly get to my school because Ma came by …Most of my schools teachers love him and they were standing outside waving like mad… I also joined for a bit…then had to get to work.
My kids parents were also in the crowd and we could see them from the windows…when Ma came by my kids freaked out and chanted his name until a DPP supporting teacher burst in and completely lost it on the kids and on me. I told her that I would have let my kids see it and respond how they want if it was anyone out there…green or blue. It’s a big day for Taiwan tomorrow…no matter who wins.
I agree that politics should stay out of schools, but with people chanting and going nuts outside the window…no way I’m going to order my kids to sit there and drink water and ignore it.
I’m torn…not that it matters because I cant vote. I don’t like the KMT but I do like Ma…I kindof lost track of what he is like nowadays, but I remember him running around tunnels trying to find a lost dog and climbing through windows of badly run kennels when he was the mayor.
Actually, a far better option for Ma or Hsieh to show some spine would be to attend the Olympics under the name and flag of Taiwan. not the ROC, for we all know there’s only one Chna, and that’s the PRC (also known as mainland China or Communist China).
waving the KMT flag around, especially on the archery or the taekwando winner’s podium would certainly piss them off a lot more than not going. Even though i think that there are better flags for Taiwan than the KMT flag, at least the KMT flag would be more recognisable at the moment.
have some spine, Ma. stick it right up them.
Hsieh’s just pissed because Ma beat him to the punch, and his automatic response is “No, {that thing you just said} is completely wrong and I disagree with it!”
