Euro 2004

Any football fans around?

Where can we live coverage of the games?

Check out www.tavern.com.tw. I believe that one of the local channels will be broadcasting the games as well. However, beware. If you were here for the last world cup you will realise that you have to put up with adverts every 5-10 minutes whilst the game is on - oh, and local Taiwanese commentators! :bluemad: :raspberry:

Best hit the pub!

Hao chio, piaoliang! Hao chio, piaoliang! Hao chio, piaoliang! Hao chio, piaoliang! Hao chio, piaoliang! Hao chio, piaoliang! Hao chio, piaoliang! Hao chio, piaoliang! Hao chio, piaoliang! Hao chio, piaoliang! . . . ad nauseum . . . ad infinitum . . . ad putmetosleepenum.

At least they don’t say “Hao ke ai!”

It could be worse…

Anybody else go to the World Cup qualifier Taiwan v Uzbekistan? Very amusing, especially when the “cheereaders” (?!) in the crowd started the chant “nice, nice 'keeper”! What would they make of the New Den…? :unamused:

I expect one of the major sports channels will have recorded broadcasts of games in mid-morning or the evening after they’re played (as they do with English Premier League matches). As long as one can avoid hearing the results before then, that’ll be as good as seeing them live. And as most of the games will be played a couple of hours before dawn Taiwan time, it’ll save you missing out on a lot of sleep even if there is somewhere you can catch them while they’re happening.

Anyone known which of the local channels will be showing the games? Live or delayed?

Espnstar seem to be showing some sort of magazine/highlights show. The rest of asia seems to be showing them live. Wonder why this decision was made?

Taiwanese commentators or not, I for one won’t be hitting the pub until 2.30 to wait for the games (not every night).

Not ESPN or STAR, and it seems, according to the Taiwan Ho forum, that the usual local channels (MUCH, ERA) are not taking it either. Sigh. Best get my holiday request for Monday in now!

IIRC, ESPNStar’s programme in Taiwan differs from the rest of Asia… and that’s another reason to leave the country…

WTF!!! I checked the programme schedule… No coverage on the games… not even for the england v france game!!!

The whole world gets live coverage, even for countries like cambodia, laos.

DAMN it… I am leaving.

I couldn’t believe it when there was no coverage of Euro 2004. Luckily I’m back to the UK this week. Maybe they will cover from the semis onwards. Email ESPN and COMPLAIN. I have!

Football is the national sport for Hongkong, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand. I just got back from Singapore and I tell’ya Euro2004 is phenomenal for the folks downunder. Incredible atmosphere, almost everyone stayed up late to catch the games, there were fewer taxis around, several companies changed their working hours just for the games…

Football is so popular in Asia, and why not Taiwan? I certainly cannot understand what fun there is in Baseball where one idiot tries to throw a ball while the other attempts to hit it with a stick… :noway:

:fume:

Regarding euro 04, TVBS will be showing the 1/4s Live and they’ll be repeated at 6am and 9am.

Had the England/Portugal game last night from 2:45 am. What a match! Sad day for England…they played well. No replay at 6 am, as far as I noticed.

Blasphemy!! you could equally be describing the “other” beautiful game…cricket!..

btw i hate the Swiss today…neutral?? yeah right…incompetent at any rate…

The last-minute goal ought never to have been disallowed – there was absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. Nevertheless, England were maddenly inept and downright piss-poor for much of the game, looking feebly deflated and without inspiration as soon as Rooney was nobbled and pulled out of it, so they’d have had to count themselves very lucky if they’d won through with Sol’s “goal”. But oh, to have just a pinch of such luck, just for once!

Beckham deserves to be hung, drawn and quartered – his play and captaincy were hugely disappointing, and there’s no condemnation strong enough for his pathetic penalty miss.

How come Postiga could do nothing right for Spurs all season, and scored only a single goal against lower division opponents in a cup game, but was able to easily rise above the England defence and head in a goal within a couple of minutes of coming on the pitch? That defence has more holes in it than A-bian’s security pre-3/19 and is a total disgrace.

We’ll never be in a better position to win a major football tournament, but we’ve gone and blown it. It’s all too much to bear!

yes’m…watching england is basically an exercise in masochism. i’ve reached the stage where i fully expect the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune every tournament and just enjoy the wonderful drama of it all. agree with your analysis…can’t believe we always get carried away with the hype of one good performance (vs Croatia) and allow ourselves to believe this might be the one…it was the brazil 2nd half all over again…midfield became absolutely anonymous. thought ashley cole’s job on twinkletoes was fantastic tho’…the one and only player to come thru with flying colors.

becks can just fuck off as far as i’m concerned; cometh the hour cometh one big waste of space and money…

I don’t get it. England lost, surely that’s a good thing, isn’t it?

if you’re a sweaty it is…at least you don’t have to worry about raised expectations…nobody expects anything from Scottish football anymore (or rugby for that matter…) in fact remind of what sports the Scots are actually good at…haggis hurling?

Curling, of course. The ONLY true sport.
And shinty.
