Every time I restart my comp, I can't get online

Hi every time I close down my computer and then restart it, it will not connect to the internet. It always shows up local area connection only, and then when I mess around with all the wires I eventually get it on at some point.

Sometimes it tells me that “there is an ip address conflict, and it says in the message some other computer has the same ip”

could that be causing the problems?

Does anyone know why this is happening?

I had a similar problem and this solved it for me.

would there be a problem if my girlfriend typed in the same ip address on her laptop and then I tried to use the same router and the same ip address on my laptop?

Your IP account should be entered into your router, and your computers shouldn’t have any IP entered into them as the router will automatically assign an individual (different) IP for each computer that is connecting to the router.

For my home account, I’ve got two separate IP addresses. One IP is used for my desktop computer and one is used for the wireless router which assigns different IPs for notebooks connecting to my network wirelessly. I don’t need to have two separate IP addresses, but I like to have one which is separate for my desktop computer and one for the router so I don’t need to do a whole bunch of port forwarding for the different programs (online games, Slingbox, Hava) which I like to use exclusively on my desktop computer.

Having two separate IP addresses also prevents any unnecessary network conflicts, which looks like you’ve been having.

Hope this helps.
