Like others said, your only option is move out unfortunately.

It does not look like the land lord wants to enforce the contract. I mean this isn’t the US and all those rules about noise and guests are rarely, if ever enforced. Heck in the states my roommate had his girlfriend living there and this isn’t allowed either but the land lord did nothing about it. And since they’re Muslim they have dietary rules that everyone else aren’t aware of. Then another roommate from Africa would often (at least every other week) have a lot of friends come over and throw massive parties until morning. Landlord did nothing about it either.

So yea about the only thing they’re likely to care is not paying rent for too long, or serious damage to the unit (which is hard to do in Taiwan, these buildings aren’t built out of sticks).

The good news is if you’re willing to live in New Taipei City you can get really nice 20 ping units for yourself for 10,000 a month.

Thanks for the response. This is pretty much my first time dealing with any type of housing problem. I stayed in a studio for one year before moving to my current place, but I decided to have a shared apartment because I wanted to cook. But now, I realized that cooking every so often is not worth the risk of a bad roommate haha.

Where in New Taipei do you suggest? It should depend greatly on the district… Banqiao has got to be a lot more than, say, Pingxi. My worry now is that my visa expires at the end of August, so I am not sure if a lot of places will do a short term rental (I checked 591, and selected the “short-term rental” option, but there were not too many rooms).

1 or 2 year contract is standard but what most don’t tell you is you can break a contract early if you don’t mind forfeiting the deposit.

As for districts, Danshui, xingjhuan, banchiao, yonghe, etc. seem to be fairly cheap. The problem with danshui is the commutes are really long and the trains are often very full. Also if you rent houses that’s accessible by the LRT they’re cheaper than ones close to the Danshui MRT station, but the LRT runs really slow compared to the MRT.
