[quote]Scientists have uncovered more evidence of a dramatic weakening in the vast ocean current that gives Western Europe its relatively balmy climate by dragging warm water northwards from the tropics.
The slowdown of the North Atlantic Drift, which climate modellers have predicted will follow global warming, has been confirmed by the most detailed study yet of ocean flow in the Atlantic.
Most alarmingly, the data reveals part of the current, usually 60 times more powerful than the Amazon River, came to a temporary halt during November 2004.
The nightmare scenario of a shutdown in the meridional ocean current that drives the Gulf Stream was dramatically portrayed in disaster film The Day After Tomorrow.

So given that we are supposed to worry about global warming because it would cause a five-degree rise in temperature, I guess we should look forward to the result? Which would be a five-degree cooling right? Therefore the desertification that was forecast will not happen. Rather the exact opposite? So we should worry about global warming of five degrees because the result will be global cooling of five degrees. Er… Um… How’s that again?
Sorry, you guys are right but I understand that climate change is now giving way to shifting weather patterns. In fact, if global warming continues, it may not rain the same time this year as it did last and there may not be as many sunny days next year as this. Frightening prospects. I live in absolute terror of said events or nonevents… but oh anyhow you know what I mean because I am not sure that I do but still we must do something about the nothing before it becomes something that nothing we can do anything about will be able to do something about the nothing that will become something. Anyway, I don’t understand anything about why this something is important even though at present it is nothing but I feel that it is important that we do something about it or at least attempt to do something about nothing to show that we care about something and not nothing. Know what I mean?

In Britain.
Agian, that’s a localized effect. Some places get cooler, others hotter, some wetter, others drier. However, average global temperatures are rising. Global warming presents serious dangers, one of which is rising sea levels by some 20 feet or more, flooding major cities in coastal areas (e.g. New York, Taipei, and kiss goodbye to most of Florida).
Tropical diseases will migrate, crop failure will be massive, the devastation on the global economy will be disastrous. See An Inconvenient Truth for more info.
Here’s an idea. Let’s DO SOMETHING about the problem instead of sitting around pretending it’s not real.
Look at this payoff table:
Gloabl warming not real, but we reduce pollution and emission: No harm done.
Global warming real, but we do nothing: Devastation.
Oh dear. So the five degree thing is only going to go up and down for Britain? Well, then what the hell is the rest of the world worrying about? Not being part of the action? See this is where I get so confused. WE are to worry about global warming because it will lead to global cooling and no doubt vice versa.
I am going to make some predictions for the next year just to prove my knowledge of the subject. Next year, the weather will not be the same as it is this year or last year in some countries of the world.
OH sorry, suddenly MORE appeared. I guess these posts are sort of proof of global warming causing all sorts of unforeseen effects.
I’ve never liked Florida and there is so much crime in New York and then Taipei could do with a good wash so that is an argument in favor of global warming, er cooling, no changing, no shifting er weather that is not the same this year er or was it last or next?
Hopefully along with all that great sunshine! Hello tropics!
Really? but will that crop failure be massive in the areas that benefit which are probably those suffering from short growing cycles now?
Yes, there has been no such devastation to date and we are very wise to worry about it.
Here’s another idea. Let’s pretend that even if we did something that it would matter just to make ourselves feel good about our actions and to give us moral purpose in life!
Does it include wine because I like wine?

Gosh, you make it sound so simple. I guess you have convinced me. I am now in favor of global warming and I agree that we should do whatever it takes to make more of it happen so that the children are happy.
