I was wondering what most of you do when you travel in Asia. Do you exchange money here in Taiwan before you go, or do most places in Asia exchange NT dollars? Or do you get US dollars are some other more convertible currency (assuming NT dollars are not convertible)? It’s just a weekend trip so I don’t need traveller’s checks. By the way, if things are different for different countries, I’ll be going to Korea.
Change to USD before you leave.
I went to Thailand with a bundle of bluenotes and found the that the rates were terrible Indonesia too!
I change the money, to the currency of the destination country, at the airport, here in Taiwan. You should be able to get Korean Won here. What’s the point of changing the money to US dollars when you don’t need to and you wil only need to see a money changer again?
I’m with Matchstick man…That’s what I always do as well.
Btw, if you carry greenbacks, some places won’t take small notes, or if they do the rate is worse. So the best bet is to carry Benjamins. I think 20s were acceptable too depending on the dealer.
I changed at the airport as suggested. I found one bank that’s about a ten-minute walk from my office. They charge NT$100 for the service and the rate is the same as at the airport. So the airport it was. Now if only I remembered to change back the leftover Korean won I have while still at the CKS airport…
what is the opening hours for the airport banks for changning money?
Kenneth
I would like to know the hours of changing money at the airport too, since Ill be traveling soon.
Here you go, boys and girls…I think the banks are the best things about CKS airport. Hours vary depending on which one you encounter but there is at least one that is open 24/7. Details below:
