Last year, during our European vacation, I packed on a lot of extra weight. Clothes that fit grew tight. A few months ago, I developed an ulcer and have been dropping weight at a remarkable weight. Those same once tight clothes now hang on me.
I’m active enough, getting on the ice two~four times/week between hockey and coaching. Still, thanks to all this weight loss (and the occasional sleepless night) I feel terribly weak. Luckily, there’s a pool, running track and gym here at work, and I can set my own hours, meaning that I can take an hour or two for lunch and get a good work out. Unfortunately, I’ve always been bored silly by the gym, hate jogging (but love l-o-n-g distance rollerblading), and swim poorly. Whatever, I’ll deal with it, if I must.
I’m determined to get into seriously good shape. Anyone know of a particularly good program?
Thanks.
Maybe you’re a bit aneimic (sp?) because of the ulcer. Maybe you need more protein in your diet for the energetic, thermic effect.
Better deal with that ulcer, pronto.
Yeah, I was also going to say perhaps you should be concentrating on your diet, rather than more exercise, at the moment. Being on the ice 2-4 times a week will keep you pretty fit. If you’re feeling weak, then more exercise is not going to help.
Oh, I’m taking care of the ulcer as best I can. Been to the docs, specialists, had a couple changes of meds. And diet is the foremost thing in my mind. No worries about protein. Happily, I can still eat meat, and do so. I’ve also been going through enough yogurt to choke a cow.
Exercise seems to help. I never feel better than when I get off the ice (although carrying my gear out of the rink is more of a chore than it ought to be). In any case, I’m still going to want an exercise program when I’ve finished bothering with my gut.
and if you want to bulk up, weight bearing exercise is the key. short reps, high load stuff: sprints, weights, gym machines, rather than blading and skating.
