Would having in my possession a genuine expired Taiwanese driver’s license (that used to permit me to drive a 150cc Vespa) help me at all now in my quest for another one? Assuming that I have a current ARC, etc. etc., as I happily now do…
I went through a few months of paranoia trying to deal with the prospect of having to re-take the driving license test, due to my old license having expired. I’d actually only just recieved it a few months earlier, but the expiry date was linked to my ARC… Expecting to need a day off work to go through the rounds, I went over to the ShiLin centre with my expired license and my new ARC, and to my surprise was informed that they would simply extend my existing license; that meant no new test was required! It was the one and only time I’ve praised the existing Taiwanese bureacracy. If I can remember correctly, it cost about $300.
The thread is old, but to me the question seems relevant:
I saw a friends Driver’s License which is valid for years after his ARC expires and he says they changed the rules on that.
My question now is, if I can get my genuine Taiwanese License extended even though it expired with my last arc in 2011 AND I don’t have an Arc card yet, because I need to study 4 month to get it.
They did change the rules but I can’t remember if they asked for my ARC when I renewed my expired DL two years ago. I don’t think they cared about the ARC and just stamped it renewed for 5 or 6 years.
Same here! It’s great, no need to go through hassle for very long time~
Got 50 to 250cc motorcycle licence this week with expiration day 7 years from now (on my birthday, for some strange reason) which is rather strange number… has nothing to do with expiration of my ARC or passport. Normally Taiwanese driving licences are issues for 10 years.
