How did I screw this up… this morning in Kenting (sunny and blue skies), I ignored the shills trying to get me on the minibuses for NT300 to Kaohsiung (“include City Hall tour, is good”), flagged down one of the big “highway buses” (but no in-seat video and no cute girl serving towelettes and cheap crackers) in front of a 7-11, and asked “Is this an express bus… two and half hours to Zuoying HSR station?” The driver says yes, I pay my NT 296 and 3.5 hours later we arrive at Kaohsiung TRA station (raining; I felt a sudden urge to go back to Kenting.). I asked the driver (1) why he said it was an express bus, and (2) why he said it went to Zuoying. He said “This is Kaohsiung, take the MRT to Zuoying.” He could have added the bonus of touring Fangliao and Donggang.
Any comments (as in, “There is no express bus from Kenting to Zuoying.”) or suggestions, or should I just rack it up to lying driver?
Back in July, I got on the 88 Express bus in Hengchun. It was going to Zuoying, although I got off before then.
hopkinja, thanks, I was pretty sure there was an express bus.
Well you did save 4nt. Or maybe not as you had to pay 20nt for the KRT?
wikipedia says you still have to take a taxi to the 88 bus? Why doesnt the 88 bus just go to the HSR< wouldnt that be easier? Wonder how long the taxi ride is supposed to be?

Man i sure do like kenting. I havent been there since 99. I recall I took some sort of 24 hour minibus for something like 250nt each way from the Kaohsiung train station.
Wonder how current this following info is?

The trouble with (most) minibuses in Kending is that they cruise the regular bus stops trying to poach the big buses’ fares until they have “enough” fares on board to satisfy them. When you actually head for Kaohsiung is anybody’s guess. IOW, there’s a service, but no schedule.
There’s also the matters of comfort and of air conditioning, both which are often MIA on the minibuses.
