I read in another post that you can extend your (extendable) visitor visa by proving to the police that a company is applying for a work permit on your behalf.
Does anybody know which exact documents are required to prove this? My 60 days is up on July 17th but my work permit application is just now getting started in the company’s personnel department.
Can I get away with just a signed and stamped letter from my boss?
Thanks!
Are you an English teacher? I had this same problem last year, but with a NON-EXTENDABLE visa. Read this thread, especially the info from Sir Donald Bradman and LittleBuddhaTW: forumosa.com/3/viewtopic.php?t=7798&highlight=
I’m American and had to pay a 3600NT$ fee to change the status of my visa. If you’re not American, expect to pay less.
But your visa is extendable, so the procedure may be easier. Good luck. Tell us what happened.
Thanks for pointing the way to that other thread. I’m gonna be working for a newspaper, so what’s that, Ministry of Economics?
Anyway, the newspaper personnel dept. might not file before next Tuesday and next Friday would be the last day for me to extend. I guess I should play it safe and buy a ticket to HK.
Do yourself a favour - go to Singapore instead. HK visa office is a hell-hole. I went to Singapore and it took 3 minutes to get a visa. It is outside the city, but easily accessible by MRT and taxi. No queues and more importantly you don’t get the grief you get in HK. Just take an employment contract and you’ll get a visa no problem. Then get the cable car to Sentosa and enjoy the beach!
Singapore is indeed a lovely (even a fine) city – I lived there for a summer. But, I am among the lucky few that have a 5-year multiple entry visa, so basically I just need the cheapest way to re-enter Taiwan, since that’s all it takes to get another 60 days.
Was thinking about signing up for Chinese classes to get an extension, but wouldn’t that be a little too obvious, since my work permit application will be submitted soon (probably around the time my visa expires)?
Oy.[/i]
So I went to the foreign affairs police with a signed and stamped letter from my company, but they do in fact need proof from whatever ministry that my work permit has been submitted (which it hasn’t…yet). I may or may not be able to get that in time.
