If you like peace and quiet and new buildings, rent in linkou or further out. For the same price it will be bigger and include a garage, and the roads are nice and wide. Most of the buildings in Taipei have some issues. 新竹 has less humidity so the buildings don’t decay as fast as in Taipei.
Just hope you don’t rent a new building where they do nonstop renovations / constructions starting at 8am and 6 days a week. Happened to me.
