It was just some alien kid joyrider speeding in a saucer trying to freak them out. Look at the flames, he was just trying to show off.
Cool! A bolide! I was lucky enough to see – and hear – one of those a few years ago from the rooftop of my place in Banqiao. So you know it had to be bright to make it through the haze here.
BTW (here comes the off-topic part), Bolide also happens to be the title of one of my favorite albums, which is by the little-known but terrific songwriter Thomas Anderson. The title track is a spoken-word piece that melds the timelessness of a murder ballad, pop culture, and Biblical references. (Audio sample here, not at the link found on the page above.)
But the track that might strike a chord most with many Forumosans is Come Back to America. Some things there are likely to remind you of an expat or two. (Sorry, no audio sample of that one right now.)
