You’re having a laugh calling Ferry Corsten a “techno demi-god” aren’t you? Honestly, it does seem to come across from your column that what you know about dance music in general could be written on a postage stamp.
Your little 60 second interviews are horrendous. It’s a very poor journalism technique, and it just seems to me that you’re trying to disguise the fact that you don’t know anything about your subject matter.
Calling Joe Ho’s style “housified techno” is just ridiculous. “Housified techno” (god that’s an awful term) already has a name - Tech House. Think records that come out on labels such as Get Physical, Trapez, B+ and the like. What Joe plays is Trance. Shitty, fluffybra godawful music that is about as far removed from techno, and tech house, as it could possibly be. It’s also about as far removed from the music that the likes of Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills & Dave Clarke play as you can get. The only DJ in Taiwan, that I have come across, that can honestly say that he lives, breathes, shits and, most importantly, plays techno is JJ from Blue Records in Taichung.
If Joe honestly did play techno then i’d be there every weekend to hear him play, but he doesn’t. I’ve heard him play a few times and everytime its been cheesy trance.
They have a book at Eslite called “Modulations”. Go buy it and read it before you spew more ingnorant garbage onto the pages of the TT.
