Howdy. I just got a new laptop and new mouse at work, which is great. But the damn cursor won’t move in a slow, steady line when I try to move it to a desired location on the screen. Instead, it’s hypersensitive, or something, and jumps left, right, left, as I painstakingly try to get it to the damn location where I want it.
What’s up with that and is there some way to calm it down and make it more manageable?
Have you tried Control Panel /Mouse?
That’s the best advice I can think of as well. Other than that, if it’s an optical mouse, try making sure that you’re not using it on some surface that has strange patterns on it. A solid color desk works well, for instance. I know I once used a mouse on a smooth granite surface that had all sorts of lines/veins in it, and the cursor was all jittery.
This. There’s a sensitivity setting in there (Pointer Options > move speed to as slow as possible).
Also, it may be that the mouse cable is a bit fecked just as it meets the mouse, unless it’s brand new (still possible though).
OR, if it’s an optical mouse (no ball under it), and you’re using it on a shiny surface, it will behave badly.
EDIT: scomargo beat me to it.
Thanks guys. That solved it. It is an optical mouse but I’m using it on a mouse pad.
So I went to where you said and slowed down the mouse speed (not all the way – that would drive me nuts). There was also a box ticked for enhanced mouse precision, or something like that, and I unticked it and see a great improvement.
