You could spend some time on Matsu, steadily build up your local language skills, and then try out your newly acquired Eastern Min accent with them!

Took Matsu to Langqi in 2025 as a foreigner using the 30-day visa-free entry to China. I also saw another guy going from Matsu to Huangqi.
No issues at border control, everything was smooth. They only asked 2โ3 questions and asked whether I was staying long-term in Shanghai (I was going to Shanghai after 4 days in Fuzhou). I answered no.

Can you tell me what status you were in? I plan to make a trip to Japan, China and Taiwan soon. Iโm a gold card holder in Taiwan, but Iโm afraid to fly and I only want to use ferries. Do you think I can pass the control?

Iโm an Asian looking Canadian foreigner who lived in Taiwan. If you are living normally in Taiwan then thereโs no reason for them to not let you through. If they turn you away then you just take the boat back so no anxiety of flying back through bad weather.
Just make sure to take the new boat (New Taima ๆฐ่บ้ฆฌ่ผช) and not the old one (Taima Star ่บ้ฆฌไนๆ).
