Field Trips that cost under 60 NT per kid (Taipei) Help!

Ok, I know I know, our budget is really low…but our director is pushing us to have another field trip for our kindergarten.

We already took them to the Taipei Story House and the Hi-Chew candy factory. Right now our only idea is the coca cola factory in TaoYen. I would rather take them somewhere better and closer to Taipei.

I need some cool ideas that are either free destinations or cheap…cheap as in under 60 NT a kid.

The teachers are wishing this will be an indoor location since the weather is warming up. (Wusses, ha!) Anyway…Ideas and suggestions greatly appreciated,

the taipei zoo is cheap, but it won’t be exactly “cool” anymore.

The Taipei Water Park. I heard that’s good for kids. Don’t know how much it is (if anything) though.

The astronomy museum is cool. They have exhibits for little kids as well as for adults. They have a ride where the kids get into a space pod and ‘fly’ around the galaxy.

However, I did kindy years ago. I think it was free, but not 100% sure.

Carnegies.

The gondola will open soon. NT50 I believe.

Off-topic but I’ve always thought that Zhinan Temple, the 3rd stop on the line, would make for a wicked Lazer Tag venue.

I saw the gondola from the freeway on Sunday. Man, that thing moves fast!

Keeps the littering to a minimum.

Buttercup…I owe you one! Great Idea!

For anyone curious…their site is in English: http://www.tam.gov.tw/eng/res.htm

There’s that museum with all the small models of famous buildings.
We took our kindy there a few years ago, I think it was cheap.

The trouble with field trips is that everyone in Taipei has been to all the museums.

The Fine Arts Museum is really cheap. Occasionally one or two of the exhibits are a little risqué, but it’s a big museum and I think it’s fun.
Taipei Fine Arts Museum: $30

Others:
Museum of Contemporary Art: $50
Museum of Tomorrow: free
National Taiwan Science Education Center: $100
National Museum of History: $20

If they are pan-green supporters, the National Taiwan Museum: $20
For pan-blues, the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Museum: free

Personally I’d like to go to the Miniatures Museum of Taiwan, but it costs $180 to get in. Quite pricey.

You can also check out Taiwan Travel Net, which offers an interactive map of interesting things to do in Taipei.

One “field trip” idea is going to Da An Forest Park or Hedge Labyrinth Park and having some kind of “field day”, with certain activities like races, word puzzles, or any kind of active games. It’s a bit hot now, but a good idea for the fall…

The zoo is a good idea.

I think it’s only NT$30 for students.

The zoo is a very good idea for the children. It’s also free for young kids too (up to 6 years old, I believe), and only 60 NT for adults.

If you are looking for indoor options, there is an educational center inside the zoo with a great dinosaur exhibit. (extra admission fees for adults, 20 NT, but I think free for the kids) There are other indoor options in the zoo such as insectarium, amphibian exhibits etc.

Hit up the nearest or furthest (exercise is good too) McDonalds…for $60nt/kid, everyone can have an ice cream cone + a small fries.

With that field trip, you’ll be the coolest teacher in the school. How many kids do you know, don’t like McD’s…?

The skinny ones?

Why not visit a fire station or a police department? Let them learn about their community without needing gimmicks, stickers, or junk food to make it more appealing.

One of my favorite activities was doing a community walk, taking my kids to a few businesses to purchase items with an alloted amount of money - like muffins from a bakery and juice from a grocery store or street vendor, dropping off our film (disposable camera) at the film processors, and then taking our snack to the park for some play time before eating and going back to school.

Sorry pan-blue field trippers, the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Museum has been renamed the Taiwan Democracy Memorial.

And how about window shopping at the mall?

I’ve been to the hi-chew factory before, it was a bit of a waste of time.

I have heard this one is better in TuCheng http://www.9420.com.tw It’s a nougat factory.

There is also a cookie factory in ShiLin that is similar in style, can’t find the link at the minute.

If anyone has anymore ideas like this I’d appreciate them as I’m rapidly running out!
