Well, the gov here is not that much into big handouts, even these 10K NT handouts are nothing wrt what other countries do. Tbh, I am all for keeping energy prices low, it actually benefits the people with less money disproportionately more than people with money. Keeps also inflation more at bay. I was scared back in Italy last week at the petrol station, we are well above 2 EUR per litre of petrol, 2.2 for diesel. Nuts, especially with our low median income and high taxation and dependence on driving. My usual 1.5K fill up for my car here would get me less than half of a tank. Scary ---

It is a great example of “big government” ≠ bad CPC is a state owned company and the positive externalities of funding it to control other economic factors (inflation, cost of living) is fairly minor, especially in times when American stupidity isn’t see-sawing the world over an oil shock. The only major negative externality is that the low cost of gas unfortunately encourages private vehicle ownership and therefore pollution.
