Final date of stay?

hi everyone,
im from canada and im filling out my visa application, and i was kinda confused on some parts… just wondering if anyone could help me out… i’m planning on studying @ MTC this summer, but I’m not sure how long yet… it could be 3 months to a year… they want me to send in my two-way plane ticket… if i buy a ticket for a 3 month stay… and i decided to stay longer, does that mean i have to leave and then come back… or can i just change my return ticket to a later date and not have to tell them anything… also on the visa application it asks for the date of departure, once again im not sure what that should me… should i say for 3 months? what do i do if i decide to stay longer… are all these things formalities? if i show all my documents indicating a 3 month stay and get a 60 day visitor visa i can infact stay for the whole 60 days and still extend it? thanks so much for your help.

Once in Taiwan, you can change the date of your return journey within the validity of the ticket.

By presenting evidence of your registration at the MTC, you can extend your 60-day visa twice, to a total of six months. Then you will have to leave Taiwan and come back with a new visa, unless you can get an Alien Resident Certificate as a student at the MTC. (Students at private language schools can only extend their visas one month at a time, also to a total of six months, and cannot get an ARC  )
