Does anyone know how I might go about finding a financial advisor who can speak English?
I think the forumosan Edgar Allan is offering that service, he has started a thread in this forum on the subject.
I’m in corporate training (= “English teaching in a suit”) and teach at several multinational financial firms which offer financial planning.
Most of them speak English no lower than the intermediate level and many of them are advanced. Even those at the intermediate level know the industry vocabulary they need to advise someone in English and the ‘office language’ for anything official is in English (even if in social conversation they say things like “A motorcycle almost hit me today. I wanted to knock up the driver!”, they can still say ‘I think it’s prudent to invest in small-cap funds and emerging markets’).
Pretty much any of my students could take on the task of advising a foreigner. It shouldn’t be too hard to find someone if you stick with the big firms.
Watch the China Post. Seems a new name comes up about every week of folks that are now residing in the U.S. and seem to very fiancially well off and thus knowledgeable. Might be able to hook up.
Seriously, though, just follow Mr. He’s advise.
I met up with Edgar Allen last time he was here. He seems quite genuine and helpful. Can’t say much beyond that because I haven’t started using his services, but it would certainly be worth contacting him.
I’ve been so busy lately I totally forgot I started this thread. Thanks everyone! ![]()
