Offered a job in Taiwan. and was told i could get a work permit within 7 - 14 days even if i arrive on a landing visa. Is this true or not? By landing VISA i mean just my passport which is UK

It takes much longer than a week or two to get a work permit; typically the whole process takes about a month to six weeks.
Don’t come in on a landing visa or visa-free entry because you can not transfer to a work visa - this means you’ll need to leave the country and pick up your work visa overseas (usually Hong Kong). Try to get a 60-day visitor visa, at the very least a 30-day visitor visa. Visitor visas can be changed to work visas without leaving the country. Good luck.
