Took a look at the link flike posted and one gin and tonic per hour puts me at 0.04! One beer - 0.02. With a limit of 0.025, having any drink puts you at risk of DUI! Makes it easy to see why, as one poster pointed out, that nearly 25% of people tested are over the limit. Any explanation why the limit is so low here as opposed to most other countries where it falls in the 0.08 range? :loco: Sounds like another revenue generation scheme by our government and men in blue. :fume:

If one G&T puts one at 0.04 I shudder to think what a Momma Mia’s Super LIIT does.
I think that is more to do with the police in Tainan not giving a fuck about anything. They also go home at 12:30 and most people stay out quite a bit later. I got pulled over last week in a car doing 97 on and 80 road (no drink involved). I had no licence or IDP and they just sort looked funny and said carry on. Last year I saw a Taiwanese fella stagger out of Willy’s in Tainan, put his helmet on, and then try to take off on his scooter. Trouble was that he forgot to turn the scooter on and remained in the riding position, twisting the throtle until he hit the deck.
Mine was in a car. No one injured outside of myself. Accident did occur (very aggressive light pole). Paid around 45KNT for the pole 30 for the police, license lost one year, and had a choice of 120KNT or six months in jail. Still thinking about. Way back when, it was a much more tolerated activity.
Mr He is right , its .025, half the Aussie limit, less than a third of the UK. Basically you area lowed one bottle of Heinekan and that is you limit. Simple moral, if you are going to drink anything don’t drive. Yes it is enforced on scooters and yes it really sucks when you want to have some wine with your dinner and you brought the car. If alcohol is involved cab it, at least in Taipei where they are pretty gung-ho about this. I have often wondered whether the low low limit is to do with East Asian’s alcohol intolerance. I remember reading something about East Asians
The Taiwan figure (0.025) is grams/litre of air in your breath. It is approximately equal to 0.5%BAC in your blood (I cannot remember if it is by weight or volume)
%BAC is the system used in Australia and most of USA. So Taiwan 0.025 g/l is about the same as Australia 0.05%BAC
Some Asians lacks an enzyme in the liver, which makes them poor company during drinking bouts. They turn red all over and can hardly walk. The first time I took my missus to a bar, I bot her 2 carlsbergs and a whisky. Upon drinking that she vomited on the bar desk and had to be carried home.
Ministry plans stricter alcohol limit for motorists
…
Under new regulations, driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.03 percent – or 0.15mg per liter in a breathalyzer test – will constitute drunk driving. The current legal limit for blood-alcohol content is 0.05 percent, or 0.25mg per liter in a breathalyzer test.
The policy is scheduled to be implemented in June and will apply to drivers of all motor vehicles.
…drunk driving will carry a heavier fine for certain categories of drivers, he said. Those who have held a driver’s license for less than two years will be fined an additional NT$15,000; those without a license will be fined an additional NT$18,000. In addition, drivers of large-size motor vehicles carrying passengers or hazardous cargo will be fined an extra NT$25,000.
The ministry is also proposing to amend the Statute Governing the Punishment of Violation of Road Traffic Regulations (道路交通管理處罰條例) by raising the base fine for drunk driving from NT$60,000 to NT$90,000. The amendment must be approved by the Legislative Yuan before taking effect. The amendment would also set a penalty for drivers who refuse to undergo an alcohol test. In addition to a NT$90,000 fine, those who refuse an alcohol test will have their licenses revoked permanently.
I got done for drink driving last year May 1st, and had to pay $15,000 and my licence was taken away for 1 year. I have still been riding since then, (blast me if you wish) and last sunday i got caught by a police officer with a radar gun on the overpass. I was doing 100kph in a 80, of course i don’t have a licence, so i got a ticket for no licence and speeding.
This is how that works
The police officer gave me back my bike licence and ticket and told me to drive carefully home (WITHOUT A LICENCE)
i get a $12,500 fine
I lose my licence for another year starting from the date i pay this ticket. (march)
Next year i have to take my driving test again. I am hoping i can just take my big bike test again and not have to do the whole 125 test and wait a year and do the over 250cc test.
This is not fun and i’m pissed, but it is my own fault i know.
if you get done for drink driving and have your licence taken away at the end of the time period you HAVE to take your test again.
Now i’m thinking what if i just didn’t have a licence full stop, what happens then??? can i not take my test for a year???
