I’m looking for people who are into fire chains or poi. I’ve been in Taiwan for a while now and the only place I know of to meet like minded individuals is at the orange caf

Chad,
Thanks for the information. Actually, it looks quite dangerous. Can you please tell me (I’m just curious) how did you get interested in this and is it as dangerous as it seems?
Started when we where f -ing around with fire as kids. No, I don’t think it’s dangerous, but the wicks can knock the shit out of you.
go to www.homeofpoi.com and get ahold of mike. He has poi for sale. I just got done seeing him tonight before the heat strolled up and had a fit about 6 drummers going apeshit for an hour and kicking out some good beats. I think the bonfire and the reported use of E didn’t help matters either even though we were only drinking beer and dancing/fire dancing.

Okami
PS it’s annoying as hell to get hit in the head by the wicks
Okami, do you live near taichung? I’ve got poi, thats no problem. I need people. Will check the site out. Thanks.
I live in Taipei. We had a lot of people for our Wednesday get together, so I imagine Taizhong would have it’s own group of similiar people, just a matter of finding them. Last week, they had a mandarin player going at it, wish I was there to have seeen and heard it. Our Wednesday get together was organized by oone person who has since departed. you could probably do the same thin in Taizhong, but it would take time and connections.
Good luck,
Okami
I can honestly say I’ve never heard Fire Poi referred to as Fire Chains before. Anyway, where and when’s this crowd in Taipei get together? Wouldn’t mind tooling about with some poi again for a bit
To meet some people playing with fire in creative ways, as mentioned briefly in the first post by Chad, check out
Orange Cafe
Wen Lin Rd. #302
in Shilin
MRT: It is right by the Shilin Station, Exit 2.
Walking: It is a couple of blocks north of the Shilin night market.
Phone: 2888-1220
There is a performance every Friday night at 10:30pm at which a group of ‘Fire Dancers’ show off their latest moves, devices and tricks involving Fire Poi.
If you are wondering, “How do these people twirl fire about in a cafe?!”…
Orange Cafe has a rooftop garden where they do their thing.
Though, it is pretty wild how close the audience sit to these Fire Poi spinners. Only in … as the cliche goes.
The group who run this show are very friendly and approachable.
They’re a great cross section of people: male, female, Taiwanese, Americans, New Zealanders, Malaysian, University students, a University professor, young, not so young … I guess the common bond is that they enjoy playing with fire.
Which they really must because, as with Okami and friends, they are always hitting the more open spaces such as beaches for late night fire twirling, jamming, and, uh, stuff.
Many of the group can be found at Orange at other times beside Friday nights. (A few work there, too.) You can call the number above for more info. Ask for Joyce or Paula or Charlie or Echo for multiple language ability.
Moaman, if you would like to take in a Friday night show some time, let me know; the beer is on me. Unless your toupe catches on fire.

Chou, post a picture a picture of Paula dancing with fire for us. Please. Words could only fail.
