I guess you are right. I’m just worried because I don’t know enough Chinese to even March. As for alternative service and other, isn’t it too late for them to arrange it for me. Maybe if they are lazy or otherwise they might just leave me here with the 4 months.

My son did his 4 months not long ago.
They are very used to some conscripts not being able to communicate.
In his unit there was one guy who only spoke Vietnamese…no English, Taiwanese or Mandarin. Nobody really noticed how he managed.
We assume the instructors just used Google translate and he watched and followed.
My son being a dual national and obviously mixed had no issues at all. Only when the recruiting sessions went on they told him to move on. Dual nationals cannot join as volunteers.

French Foreign Legion is used to having people who speaks ZERO french join in. This isn’t the FFL, but you just do what everyone else does and you will be fine. Don’t stick out, and don’t volunteer for anything (you might end up in the gas chamber).
If you do end up in the gas chamber, DO NOT wash the stuff off, it makes it worse.
That is silly. So they are forced to do national service, but cant join the regular army. Weird.
Yea, “nationalism” or whatever. The US in fact encourages green card holder to join up. You can become a citizen immediately if you do.
But every country has their rules about being a volunteer… that will likely change if China attacks.
Nope. (It’s much easier and quicker though. During a designated time of hostility, you can apply almost immediately (I think it’s 1 day of service - but good luck getting anyone to get you any paperwork in the military in a day), vs after 1 year of service. But it still takes a while to process - I’ve heard it’s pretty quick now (a few months), but last I was in Agh, there was an Irish Marine I knew who had been in process for some 18 months)
Yeah. Dual nationals can’t hold government jobs and apparently a volunteer is considered a government job.

You could even join an officers academy but wouldn’t be able to graduate as that requires becoming a commissioned officer and volunteering.

Or they just increase conscription time to indefinite.
I mean they did the same thing at the medical check up. They used Google translate and told to follow everyone else. But I’m worried about the drill sergeants. Also, I need good relationship with my unit mates because I need their help almost all the time.

The one year service is only for those recently turned 18. Those in the generation that did the 4 months were grandfathered at 4 months.
