Hello,
First time renting and there were probably some language misunderstandings on my end. I like the place and have agreed orally that I’d like to rent.
They called me today because there is still some old furniture in their home that I’d prefer for it be moved out. And they were saying would I rather they move this out before signing a contract and I said yes.
So now nothing is set in stone on when they can do that and I’m wondering if they don’t want to move the stuff until I sign? Like they think it’s too much trouble.
I don’t know it also added to my worry because the landlady called me about the rental and I misunderstood and said I was presently looking. But then I backtracked and said I definitely want to rent it. And then she noticed my American accent because I look Asian but my Chinese still isn’t that good and now I’m worried because me being like an ABC and all that stuff mentioned about that I ruined my chances with signing these lease.
I think if you’ve found the one landlord in Taiwan willing to take their old shit with them when you rent the place, you should be grateful lol.
If you like the place and they’ve already said they’re willing to do that, I’d give them the benefit of the doubt and not assume they’re out to trick you.
See here for what I think is a more typical experience:
Do you have any relatives here? Friends? Coworkers? Natives I mean. Bring them as witness when you sign. Make a video of the apartment when you move in. The contract should have a list of the stuff that’s already inside. Document the condition.
