I’ve had some trouble finding Chinese - English flash cards,
if anyone knows of a place to get them in Taiwan or on the internet?
Really I mean, Traditional Chinese - pinyin flash cards.
I did finally find some decent software for flashcards paul-raedle.de/vtrain/home.htm
I played around with several programs that suck more.
It accepts chinese fonts. I created some decks for the vocabulary
in Practical Audio Video Chinese (just up to chapter 10), though
they are a bit crude. Is there a way to post files here?
They are less than 20K per chapter. You can add sound but I did not.
Whad do you use for flash cards? Seems to me the big challenge
is adding vocabulary. I understand I need 1000 to read the newspaper.
And that I high school grad knows 5000. Though I wonder if they
mean tzyh or compounds. For example this fat dictionary eng.fareast.com.tw/engweb/produc … &bsn=12001
has 20,000 tzyh but 100,000 compounds.
The Hess bookstore in FE21 has some. They also have practice writing baords with write on/wipe off pens. After that buy yourself some index cards and start making your own. Not only will this help you reinforce the characters but it will also help you learn the stroke order.
I have a small white board I use for writing practing. That way I don’t waste paper and don’t have look at my sloppy writing.

They’re lying to you about this. I know at least 2,000 and I can’t really read the paper yet.
As for flashcards, just make them yourself. I used those packs of blank white name cards you can buy at any stationery store, and a red marker. Red is supposed to help imprint the form on your brain.

Agreed. I’ve heard that you need to know at least 3000 characters to properly read a newspaper. This takes a lot of time… :help:
I am using that VTrain program to make my own electronic flash cards.
It lets me make the characters RED per your suggestion.
I decided to learn to TYPE chinese but not WRITE it.
Windoze XP has several input systems available, I am using
Chinese Traditional New Phonetic: just type the pinyin and the tone.
Its not bad. 不錯
I strongly advise that you make your own flash cards.
Put the Chinese character on one side:
愛
On the other side, include all element you need, English in the middle, and the pinyin (with tone marks) at the bottom right. This way you learn how to write characters as you make the flashcards. You can use those cards that J. High Sch. and High Sch. students use with the ring on the corner so you can move them around or regroup them. They are much more portable than regular cards, too.
