Flea markets

Does Taipei have any good flea markets? looking for some to go to. Also, where is the resturant supply area? I need cookware. Thanks

Flea markets?!? :noway: Night markets are better than an ol’ flea market any day.

Dunno about flea markets, but there’s no trouble finding cockroaches at the night markets…

Never been to West Memphis?

There used to be a flea market under the bridhe from Banqiao to Xinzhuang (can’t remember the name of the bridge, but it’s first one).

Restaurant supplies (new and used) are on Xiamen Stand Chongching Sth Rd around the Zhong Zheng Bridge (to Yong He).

Does anybody know any nice flea markets in or around Taipei, where you could buy some old things for a nice price?

Any kind of suggestion would be appreciated.

There is an antique market at the corner of Bade and Xinsheng, beside the Guanghua computer market (just north of Xinsheng/Zhongxiao MRT).

There is a real flea market (apparently full of stolen goods) under the Zhongxing Bridge which goes over the floodway between Xinzhuang and Sanchong.

When?

I’ve heard of that place…I think it’s only open at weird times though…I forget when, but like in the middle of the night.

Middle of the night’s perfect for me. It’s about the only time of day I’m actually fully conscious.

I cabbed out there with some friends after a party over a year ago. I can’t exactly remember the details, but it was like 3am or something i think. After-party-excursions are always sketchy. Anyways, it wasn’t open. I’d go back though if i knew when it was open.

There will be a flea market at the Taipei Cultural Museum in beitou in the near future, I will post dates when it is confirmed.

The museum has been closed for renovations and will remain closed for another 1-2 years, it could be interesting to go and just see the building which is nearly a 100 year old japanese style building. For those who may not know, Japanese architecture (and other things such as kimono’s, tatami, ikebana, etc…) are “imports” from the Chinese Tang and Song dynasty. So in a way japan is like a Chinese time capsule… but I digress.

Yes, you do digress. I’m more into hot electronics than kimonos, but i won’t tread the forumosa legality line any further. I’m sure others are more culturally minded than me though.

Oh yeah, weekends. Saturday mornings for sure - that’s the only time I’ve actually seen it. I was cycling past so didn’t check it out. I read about it somewhere before though.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was told that the flea market under the Zhongxing bridge takes place on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
There also seems to be a “flea-bookmarket” near Hsin sheng South road, called Guanghua or something alike.

Guanghua Market, corner of Bade and Xinsheng. Not really a fleamarket per se, but some funky books and movies available in the bottom floor.

I just heard that there’s a one-off flea market today, Sat. Jan 17th, 2009, 2-5pm at the 內湖焚化廠能源利用中心, 安康路290號, the Neihu Incinerator’s energy center, An1kang1 Rd. #290, but that if you’re interested you should be there at the very beginning, as it was all gone within an hour last year.

I was at the market under the Sanchong bridge (Thieves Market) last Sunday. I didn’t see many deals or much old funky stuff, and the local I went with told me it was open every day of the week now. Lots of booths looking like long term retail if you ask me. It was better a couple of years ago.

There is a big flea market in Neihu, where everything from electronics, books, faux LV articles and everything else you can imagine -even canned food from the US of A- is for sale. I saw a TV special about it recently and it is featured on the Taipei City book of traditional markets.

However, as the book is at home and I am at the office, I cannot post the address…
