Food Coloring

I have searched and turned up a few easter supply threads, but none point to a specific store that sells food coloring in Taipei.

I have tried many grocery stores in my area and turned up nothing. Any help? I need to use the food coloring for my Elementary Science Classes and my Elementary / Junior High Cooking-Baking Classes. I need to buy a lot, to last a few semesters so it would help if it was on the cheap side.

Thanks!

there are several baking specialist shops around town. they may be able to help. that, and cake store suppliers… plenty of violent green and pink cakes being made here.
:barf:

Jasons Supermarket, Breeze Center,Wellmans and CitySuper. Also any local baking shop, I get mine at a baking shop in NeiHu

You can get big bottles of the basic Americolor gel colors on the Internet (places like Sugarcraft and so on). That would probably work out to be cheaper than the liquid packs for quantity purchases, even with the postage to Taiwan.

Just go to any DIY baking store. You will not find liters of the colors but you will find a small bottle just like in the West. If you can’t find such a place, just ask here or pm me . . . . no problem.

See here for some baking shops’ addresses:

Breeze Center and City Super do not have it. Went to both places today, and was told they didnt sell food coloring. Just to be sure I searched the wntire two stores myself. There was none.

Will have to check out other places tomorrow

baking shops, baking shops, baking shops (and Wellman’s)!

Dragonbones…ok, ok . ok!

We just happened to be shopping near those other places and gave them a shot first

If and when I do get to a baking shop and find what I am looking for, I will post the name of the place and address.

Jason’s has food colouring. I bought some there a while ago.

From another thread:
I found the food coloring at a DIY store next to the blockbuster on ZhuangJing rd. I’ve never been there before even though it’s just a block away. They had a lot of good stuff there like cheese and chocolate. Also ingredients for making your own bread which I think we’ll try doing soon.

Thanks for all the replies!
Hey, that’s MY baking shop! They have a pretty amazing range of stuff considering they’re just a little hole in the wall…

I found food coloring at a baking goods store at the northwest corner of Minsheng W. Rd. and Dihua St.

Now my homemade strawberry liqueur is an attractive red, not a sickly pinkish brown.

A fine cook doesn’t need to color his food.

You do realize that food coloring is needed by fine chefs and home bakers and cooks for making colored icing and candies, don’t you? It’s not usually put in ‘food’ as in a main dish, but it is put in ‘food’ as in icings, candies, and occasionally a cookie dough (like when making green Christmas tree cookies). Also, fine cooks DO color their food (main dishes and side dishes), often with paprika, turmeric, saffron and so on.

It’s also used in liqueurs. Nobody wants to drink a liqueur that, despite tasting superb, looks like swamp water.

Once again, a fine contribution! :bravo:

I read on here that it can be found, but I can’t find it! Jason’s - no. City Super - no. Regular Wellcome? Well, not in my neighborhood anyway. Don’t know where any specialty stores are for this.

Help?

Food-related items are in the Food forum area; I’ll merge this for you shortly. Anyway, Wellman’s has the little four packs. The DIY baking stores have those and/or the individual bottles of more concentrated paste colors. Search for DIY baking supply to find a list of the addresses.

Yeah, a fine chef doesn’t need to color his food, but I am decorating cookies with two girls under age 10. Not exactly aiming for high cuisine.

Where are all these DIY baking shops everyone talks about? “Go to a baking shop” doesn’t really help if I don’t know where any of them are. I don’t know where Wellman’s is, either. I don’t buy a lot of Western food.

Thank you Dragonbones, I will try searching.
