For the humanists out there

You are knocked unconscious and kidnapped. When you wake you find your circulatory system is plugged into the body of a sickly writer. The police have apprehended the kidnappers. They were followers of the writer who were trying to keep him alive. You are now free to go but you are told that if you unplug yourself, the writer will die. Only if you remain hooked up to the writer for many months does the writer have any chance of survival.

  1. What do you do?

A woman is raped. She discovers that she is pregnant. Her choice is to have an abortion or to bring the fetus to term.

  1. What should she do?

Please answer the questions as 1 and 2.

  1. how can I be sure I’m really free to go? assuming I really am, I leave, and head for the nearest police station to report the crime.

  2. should? the only should is that ultimately, the choice should be hers.

  1. I live vicariously off of the writer; eat caviar and sashimi all the time, and enjoy his/her morphine.

  2. She’s doomed to be free. I’m not giving her any of my morphine.

Find a new writer, because this story is nonsensical.

    Abort.

WTF is a “sticky writer” ?

Have anything to do with ‘Post-It’ notes?

A fan of Dr House are you? :sunglasses:

In the event where morphine is not available, what then?

I was hoping for a few more responses.

Here is an interesting link to peruse.

Love the examples.

What is you proof that humans exist?

Consent matters.

  1. What do you do?[/quote]Maximally: give the docs an opportunity – a few days – to sort out another solution. Then unplug.

OK, aside from this being pretty much the most over-reachingly retarded scenario since Tigerman gibbering on about his dog fucking time traveling and voting :loco: , I reckon that the dude sharing my bloodstream would be begging for a disconnect after a single Wednesday night at the OK Corral.
And sorry, what was the significance of him being a writer anyway?

  1. Need more information. How uncomfortable would it be for me, is the writer a bad man, etc. Most likely, I would unplug myself.

  2. She should be given a large amount of support to do what she wants.

There is no significance.
The point is that these two scenarios are identical. A crime was commited and the victim is now in a situation where they have to make a moral choice. You can not insist on keeping the baby because abortion is wrong for example and then not be willing to do the same for the writer.
There are some interesting ideas on the link I posted.

Must really suck to be humanist in high school, eh? And who is the writer? Irvine Welsh? Barbara Cartland? Cuz, you know, that’s gonna make a difference. As a humanist, for example, I’d expect great kudos and even laurels, for helping old Barbara shuffle off this mortal coil.

My brother is a pianist. He real fucked up.

Well, if you insist on honesty, I would not mind sharing blood with Charlie Sheen. I have to get some of what he’s on.

  1. What are his chances if I stay hooked up to him? If he has a good chance after a certain amount of time then I’ll stay hooked up until he gets better.
  2. It’s her decision, not mine. “Should” doesn’t enter into it.

I would ask to see his oeuvre.

When you say “humanist”, do you mean “secular humanist”? Just wondering if I should answer or not…

:aiyo:

Ok, let me rephrase that. I would ask to examine his magnum opus.
