Ford Festiva Faults?

Might be looking at some old cheap Ford Festiva’s at the weekend. Any particular “generic faults” known?

Honest John says, of the UK market Mazda 121 (1988 - 1991), which as far as I can tell is roughly the same thing:-

“What to Watch Out For: Front suspension bushes wear. Carburettor engine can give trouble.”

That last is a bit irritatingly vague. Only 5-speed manuals mentioned for the UK, which sadly is unlikely to be the case here.

Just don’t. The Festiva is a turd compared to similarly priced small cars. My wife had one for her first car. In that kind of price range I’d look at a March or if that’s too small, a Tercel.

I agree that it isn’t the best small car out there by far. Honda City, Toyota Tercel, Nissan March, Mazda Isamu are all better alternatives.
