I don’t think that has any influence on Cornelldesi’s argument which I interperet simply as this:
As an Asian American male he’d like to see more positive images of Asian men in American media. I think that’s a perfectly legitimate desire.
I have no problem with that argument either. But I do have a problem with the way CD expressed his argument, and it wasn’t as you paraphrased it above.
I couldn’t care less if they were all Asians or none Asians… it simply isn’t an issue that I deem worthy of outrage.
Well yeah… if they’re stupid enough to look for reality in Hollywood movies. I mean, come on, I realized that Superman wasn’t real a long time ago.
Again… if folks are looking for accurate info re anything from the movies, then they are stupid.
Or, if more people were like me and didn’t give a hoot whether the hero is white, yellow or black (or green… Hulk)… then maybe the industry would change… But CD was selectively pointing at the US industry and singling it out for criticism that can be levelled at the industries of ANY nation. It isn’t as though the US and white Americans have a monopoly on idiocy and or ethnic preferences.
You’ll note that I never attempted to stifle his enthusiasm. Rather, I was exercising my freedom of speech in disagreeing with his ideas. That is what free speech is really all about.
