So I moved out of an apartment in Kaohsiung like 3 months ago, and I cleaned the place it was fine blablabla. Last month they returned my 2 month deposit.
This week the landlady calls us and says I didn’t pay rent for June, to be honest I think I may have plum forgot but I assumed that when they returned my whole deposit it was all good. Now she wants half of it back. If I owe them, fine, I’ll get it to them but the problem is I’m going on vacation in a couple weeks and it’s pretty inconvenient to be honest. Can she sue me if I refuse to pay it back immediately even though they chose to return the deposit?
She did the decent thing by returning your deposit. If you actually owe a month’s rent that slipped through the cracks, I’d say you should do the decent thing by paying it now. Or if you’re short, you could try explaining and asking her whether she can let you pay it back later.
Likely if you explain that you must have forgot but the trip makes it inconvenient to pay her now however you are very willing to pay her when you get back, i’m sure she will be reasonable. After all, she is the one that needs the money, so she really has to be reasonable
Double check when you paid the rent, remember that you may also have paid a month in advance as well as a 2 month deposit, landlady may also be confused.
