Well, the commercial came out on Friday - I’ve seen it on AXN and on Channel V. I’m not exactly proud of my bit in it - I’m certainly no movie star, and I know there are a zillion guys out there with better Mandarin than me, but it’s a passable effort, I guess. Anyway, you can see the 30 second version here, and the 20 second version here. ![]()
30 second link is faulty. And you know, it’s 2:19 in the morning and I sure as hell want all my links working.
Hmm. It’s working for me. :s You could always just go to Youtube and do a search for “Forumosa”. That’ll take you there also… ![]()
I liked the ad, and thought maoman was very natural. As a big Taiwan Beer drinker, I am happy to see the stereotype that foreigners prefer foreign beers such as heineken broken.
Hey, don’t expect me to start drinking Taiwan beer now … :eh:

Yeah, that’s what I did. But for that extra step you owe me a - yes - Taiwan beer.

My pleasure! I’ll even throw in a skewer of chicken butt and a complementary betelnut! ![]()
The first thing the SO said when he saw that commercial was that he had been at a Happy Hour, and that he didn’t see anybody drinking Taiwan Beer. Keep that in mind for the next one, guys. I think a Taiwan Beer would go very well with your new tank top.

I saw the ad earlier today. What a surprise to see people I knew on the tube! Maoman, Jaboney, Miltownkid, etc. Way to go!!
(Thanks almas john for directing me to this thread. Mods, feel free to temp or delete the other thread I started.)
That’s impressive, guys! Well done!!! The wedding picture was a nice…funny…touch too!
He did at my house. Actually, that beer (at my house) was “sponsored” by the fine folks that shot the ad. ![]()

Did everyone note how MTK sneaked by the camera with a CASE of beer, and yet, when they paid for it, the case no nowehere to be seen?
That does it. I’m bolting all the chairs down.

I drink so much of it they ought to make me official ale-taster of the borough. Nice to know I’m doing my part to break stereotypes. Except the stereotype that all foreigners are drunks, of course.
Seriously though, the ad is an embarrassing piece of crap in the “look at the foreign clowns speak Chinese” genre. I didn’t pay close attention as it was beamed into my unwilling eyes last night, but it seemed to me that Taiwanese people were being compared to cans of beer, or cans of beer being compared to Taiwanese people, I don’t know which is more repulsive. Ruined my buzz, anyway.
“Do you know Taiwan?”
“I live here – I know.”
This doesn’t make sense. What does “Do you know Taiwan” mean? Is this like asking if you know where some place is, like England, for instance? Or is it, “Have you ever heard of this place?”
Both are odd.
Yet the answer is not even grammatical, unless it means “I know that I live here.” “I know” means I understand. “I know Taiwan,” would imply that you are familiar with the place. “Know” here is a transitive verb that needs a direct object, which it lacks.
“Hi. I’m looking for a good dance studio/classes.”
WTF?
Nong! More nam khang for khun Wolf’s Singha, na krup!

Looks like a bunch of foreigners getting seriously drunk, surely makes a good impression.
And yes, my boyfriend is like a can of beer, very friendly
