This is a quote from the Fox news opinion page.
Some comedian wrote it, but I don’t think he was kidding about that. This is what Conservatives believe. Or at least a large portion of them. That’s part of the whole Global Warming Denial mindset. The oil companies spend a lot of money to promote this misconception. Anti-government paranoia.

But you will find many people who agree with Fox. They like to hear their beliefs reinforced. That’s why Fox has such huge ratings. I don’t think it’s just an American thing either.
Sure there are environmentalists who are in it for the money, or mostly for the money, or at least partially the money. That doesn’t mean the environment isn’t completely screwed up, mostly screwed up, or partially screwed up. It’s a lot of grey area for the moroons to confused about. Fox news is Al Qaeda’s main source of funding. They pay them to bomb things so share value goes up on their protection rackets. Smog is great. Burn another tire.
I guess like most propaganda, there is some truth in it.
The Moderator changed the title for me, which is all right. I didn’t want this to be about Fox news, so I didn’t have that in the title. I’m just interested in the stark differences of opinion between the right and the left. I try to read opinion from right-wing publications, because I know that I have a liberal bias. I find some things distasteful, but I know that there are really nice people that like it. Probably as much as I like to read the Huffington Post or Think Progress. I just have an interest in trying to figure out why they have beliefs that I don’t. There is probably a way to discuss it without using derogatory terms, but it’s more difficult.
Fox News is such a joke these days that they even (in some cases) laugh at themselves. Check out Jon Stewart’s recent appearance on ‘The O’Reilly Factor’. They seemed more like two hucksters in cahoots than the opposing ideologues they were trying to portrait.
The network is basically a humorless Daily Show for RWBHs.
That being said.
Environmentalists are overwhelmingly to the left of center.
They are overwhelmingly against big business and global trade.
And the only places they can get funding is through government or NPOs.
They are a threat to right wing ideology and must be smeared whenever possible.

But Dr. Lewis bases his critisism on a book about the ‘hockey stick’ thing and ‘climategate’. I have looked at these two issues before and read about it in the global warming threads and online and have seen that there is no major scientific fraud here.
It seems the scientific approach, if one were to disagree with prevailing theory, would be to work to convince other scientists of the logical superiority of your hypothesis. Not to quit and then hit the denialist circuit. Complaining about how unfair it all is.
Very strange, these conspiracy theorists. The only way you can be on their side is to believe that environmentalists have ulterior motives. Both the hockey stick ‘controversy’ and the ‘climategate’ mess have been studied by major scientific organizations and declared to be nothing of consequence, so you have to believe that they are in on it, too.
Pollution control absolutely is within the governments purview.
We just saw what happened in the gulf of Mexico precisely because of lax governmental control. And these maroons STILL think LESS governmental control is the way to go?
The far right is mostly dumb old turds and quite a few dumb middle-aged turds. There are some dumb young turds too I suppose these days. It is part of the decline of Western Civilization. White rage at being outclassed on so many levels simultaneously. There is a 1% brainy bunch at the top who tells the dumb turds (young and old) what to think and that’s about it.
Having said that, yes, it would be nice to get a break occassionally from the fear mongerers. There was a guy on CNN awhile ago talking about how the Pacific Ocean is turning into a big plastic bottle dump. Plastic in the ocean is no doubt a huge problem but he took us to a beach in Hawaii (where in places the beaches apparently act like big seive of the stuff) and picking up a handfull of beach that was about 75% bits of plastic said something to the effect that that was what the “world’s” beaches were turning into. All those trillions of bits of sand were being replaced with bits of plastic. Bit of a stretch. The he cut to a picture of the incoming tide and there they were, like they’d been placed there a minute ago, all clean, all with their tops on, hundreds of plastic bottles. Right on cue. It was pathetic.
I have no doubt this is a serious issue but treating people like idiots is NOT the way to go.

Bob, the problem with plastic is that it does not wash up on beaches. Huge amounts of plastic are caught in the “central North Pacific Ocean located roughly between 135° to 155°W and 35° to 42°N.” Most of it circulates in the ocean waters and does not wash up. Hey I wouldn’t necessarily say environmentalist per say want to take away your rights. But I think you are on the right track. I think there are environmentalist that are good that really care about the environment ( I consider myself one of them) But I also think that there are people in the guise “environmentalist” who do not have the best intentions for man kind. Let’s take the global warming campaign for instance. Al Gore is just Al Gore an ex-vice president. Not a god. But he is “so cool” and “ so popular” people are going to jump on his bandwagon without questioning or researching what is really happening. And although him and his people may have the best intentions for the planet their misinformation may be leading them in the wrong direction and can ultimately lead to disaster.
There are scientist with a high concentration of time and energy in the area of meteorology who are challenging his theory. Al Gore is not a meteorologist and neither is Bill Gates who has jumped on this band wagon. Bill Gates level of expertise is software not weather. So while he may be a genius when it comes to software he maybe totally ignorant when it comes to weather. But he is regarded as a genius so people aren’t going to question him either. I jumped on this bandwagon as well but the thing that made me question what was going on was recently at a Ted conference Bill Gates stated that the way to stop global warming is to reduce the population. And I was like What the fuck?!!
Then that’s where it gets scary because government’s have a way to take away your rights and limit your use of food, water, energy, and other things. (Check out laws like the Lisbon Treaty There are other laws like it set in place in other parts of the world) Under the guise that it is for the environment. And if the way to stop global warming is by reducing the population who decides who gets to live and who gets to die. I bet you it’s not the rich elite people who are going to suffer.
So just do your research think about it. I actually don’t watch Fox news I was a huge Obama supporter (now non partisan) I am actually doing research on a project about vaccines and I find it has quite a few parallels with global warming and the environment. I came across this thread and felt I had to say something. I am not trying to be right just trying to get people to wake up and question the information which is being given to them. It’s not about left wing, and right wing, and black and white. We have to stop fighting the more we fight the less time we have to focus on the real problem.

As for scientists challenging global warming, I assume you’re aware that the consensus in the serious scientific community overwhelmingly believes global warming is taking place and poses a serious threat to our planet. Of course Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck dispute it, but I wouldn’t characterize them as scientists.

Spam emails are illegal, as are fraudulent or defamatory emails or online extortion, as is online harassment and trademark or copyright infringement, etc. I don’t see how freedom of press is any greater online than irl. If one wants to believe that all the major science institutions in the world are corrupt and intentionally misrepresenting their findings, then one is free to do so. I have seen no convincing evidence of this. I see websites and organizations funded by energy corporations trying to keep the denialist myths going. And there’s probably more to it than that. Something psychological about people who enjoy having enemies to the point where they make them up.
