Fredfest V: Keeping the Feast Alive!

I might be able to scrunch together enough money with that much of a notice. Hell, if not, I’m sure the bank will think it a worthy enough cause to spot me a short-term loan. Count me in. Work (Saturday morning or late Saturday evening) be damned! I am 3+ years overdue to take you up on your offer.

Tentative date now set at Saturday December 9 from 7:00 to 1:00 at the Landis. I will try to see about getting the price lowered or getting the service charge included. A lot of these ingredients are going to have to be flown in especially and the hotel will not be able to use them later so please if you sign up, I am going to need an absolutely 100 percent firm commitment by say two weeks prior to the event.

I am also looking to a few wine importers to get the wines sourced locally. IF I can get a good deal, I will add that to the price and just have these delivered with the Champagne to be brought as usual by everyone (one bottle per person).

The chef is quite excited about the hunting hordes descending on the hotel but I warned him not to expect my usual, well-behaved patrons. I told him to expect the Huns, the Mongols, the Vandals, the Infidels, (whoops) strike the last one, but he thought I was talking about 1950s style rock bands. Sigh.

Note to Hobbes. Are you sure you don’t want your mother-in-law to come along? haha Be quite an eye opener for her wouldn’t it? haha

Exotic food’s like porn, the more you get the harder you want it. A few pheasants here, a rabbit or two and the next thing Fred Fest is in some weird little dungeon up in Yangmingshan where you find yourself eagerly gulping down everything Fred serves. . . “here, try the sweetbread, its absolutely divine.”

Enviously yours.

HG

Saturday December 9th – I’m in.

Fred,

I’m in.

Can’t wait!

Okay. This is the status

Dec. 9 Saturday 7 to 1 am is definitely cfmd at the Landis Hotel Paris 1930

Menu and cost pending but plan on NT$3,000

Also, one bottle of Champagne per person (NT$1,500) and maybe one bottle of wine (NT$650). So total cost of participation is looking at around NT$5,000 per person. Again, I am going to try to use some connections to figure out how to do this a bit more cheaply. Keep your fingers crossed.

CFMD List for Dec. 9

  1. Imaniou
  2. Tigerman
  3. Rotalsnart
  4. Hobbes
  5. JD Smith
  6. Elektronisk
  7. Yellow Cartman
  8. Namahottie
  9. Fee
  10. Fred Smith
  11. Spook

Again, not to be a hard ass but I will need definite commitments with no possibility of cancellation by about Nov. 20. And nothing earns my wrath more than no shows or last-minute cancellations. Even Jimmy Carter has not seen the ugliness of that side of me. haha

I will look at taking a few more up to 16. I have to save seats for Chewycorns and Broon Ale until notified that they are unable or unwilling to attend. Also, would love to have any of the following consider signing up: Bob Honest or bob. Respectful declines already from Mother Theresa, MFGR and Jaboney. Let me know.

Happy Holidays and get ready for some good cheer. This new chef (past year) at the hotel has been outstanding and now rates as my favorite chef at my favorite restaurant at my favorite hotel in the past 25 years. He is THAT good. If you liked the menu at the Grand, wait till you see what a master chef can do. Of course, the view, the atmosphere, the stunning architecture will be absent this time. Quel regret.

I’m in, as well.

Looking forward to it.

Hold on a second. What about those who don’t drink? I don’t want to pay out an extra $2000 dollars or so for something I won’t touch.

If it’s an all inclusive package deal, take it or leave it, then…well, I guess I’ll be leaving it.

The Wine and Champagne are brought individually which lowers the costs considerably. So instead of NT$3,000 for a bottle of Champagne in the restaurant, we pay retail of around NT$1,500. Moet (not my favorite) is around NT$1,250 and Veuve Clicquot is NT$1,650 or NT$1,700. Ditto for the wine. Instead of NT$2,000 plus per bottle, we get to have it for NT$650 since we are buying it and bringing it ourselves.

IF you don’t drink (some past guests have not), then you don’t need to bring this. Understood? Anyway, you are removed from the list so no worries.

December 9th feels like 3 years from now, but I would like to partake in the festivities. I’ll know if I can by the 20th.

It will be here before you know it.

This one is being planned earlier because of the time needed to import everything. I think that we will make it a Christmasy, Bing Crosby kind of thing as well. We certainly cannot listen to Wagner operas all night! or polkas! haha

Hope you can make it.

Ummm…Ok then. Ask a question get tossed from the list. :loco:

I am merely responding to this. I assumed you no longer wanted to come.

Before I sign up, I just wnat to be absolutely sure that any left over pheasants will be sent to Africa to feed the starving children.

Why bother with the shipping? You can just take the MTR in HK up to last stop to do that good deed…

But the Chungking Mansions is in Tsim Tsa Tsui, that’s only a couple of stops out of Central.

Oh, that’s is so 20th Century. You are obviously a neo-colonial paternalist. Rather than sending the economically disadvantaged leftovers, Fred is sourcing the pheasants from organic “free trade” farms in Kenya.

Isn’t it just…

Obviously!

How did you find out? I thought my sources were a secret. Damn that Ivana Trump for telling again! or was it Princess Anne? I know Larry King. Gee whiz. You think you know people and can trust them. Last benefit dinner I ever attend for whatever disease they are sponsoring this ball season! The check is in the mail. Yeah and hold your breath waiting for that to arrive! Harumph!
