I’m contracted to teach a Freshman level Pronunciation course for this upcoming fall semester at a University here in Taiwan.
Can anyone recommend any really good pronunciation text books for this level that would carry through a whole semester of work.
Thanks in advance.[/quote]
Why the focus on a textbook?
I would focus more on individual sounds, then blending them together to make words. So many people say, for example, “m” says “muh” and “t” says “tuh.” As a result, my name is Muhatuh rather than “Matt.”
I would focus on homework being tape recorded, you give students corrections based on what they need, and have them re-record it.
As far as how to run a full-blown class, I’m not exactly sure. There are some good tips in the sticky subject about teaching one on one tutoring and it focuses a lot on pronunciation. Maybe that will help, but it is more 1:1 specific.
