Friends and their annoying Facebook habits

So I got a bunch of friends now (different circles, many of them don’t know each other) who are all over conspiracy BS, posting shit nonstop onto their Facebook page, so everyday I gotta log on, read their crap, lose a little bit more respect for them and then carry on with my day. It isn’t even so much that I think conspiracy is mostly a load of crap and some perverse form of fantasy, its that these clowns are so late to the party its embarrassing to their new cause. Yay! A clip from Loose Change, welcome to 2006! Yeah yeah yeah, I could quit Facebook, but lets face it, you can’t, too many groups, too much communication and too many invites and events, you will be somewhat adrift socially if you do so.

I got another bunch of friends (different circles, many of them don’t know each other) who post daily pics of mangled animals and shit like dated photos of Asian dudes holding a hanged dog asking people to be on the lookout for them…the fuck? These pics ruin my day, I have pets, I don’t want to see that shit, it a bad world, I know, stop fucking reminding me.

Now I could go on and on about various other habits (“everything is awesome all the time!” people. KIDS KIDS KIDS!!! I am here, now I am there, look I am over here. I ate this for lunch pic pic with me doing the peace sign) but I would sound too bitter, I am not bitter, I think the site is good, but I do think we get too much influence from people that we were never hanging around with (the trouble with having Facebook friends who are distant acquaintances at best).

Yeah Facebook is a really crude network, it seems hard to control what pops up on the newsfeed. Google circles would be much better it anybody actually used it.

You should see the amount of people who’ve unfriended me on Facebook due to “disagreements” on flob. Now THAT’S childish. :aiyo:

People KNOW that you’ve unfriended them? Oh SHITE! Looks I’ll be getting a lot fewer Christmas cards this year.

Hey! I just ‘friended’ you, now don’t tell me I need to ‘unfriend’ you because I don’t like some of the shit you post on Forumosa.

Just unsubscribe from their updates. Or else, unfriend them.

You shouldn’t have to worry about disgusting things they post on their walls.

I just select to not see what certain people put up - they don’t know I’m ignoring them so no feelings hurt and I don’t need to see their garbage.

Unfriending is an important part of social network management.
I will be speaking about this at the next TED event.
Follow me on twitter for further tweets.
Here’s a cute picture of a cat.
No it’s not mine.
I shared it.
BRB.

I get a message saying i will have the new timeline on aug. 25. Has anyone figured out how to not switch over? I like the old format.

I like it when people share their thoughts and political statements. But as you said, conspiracy theorists do not belong in FB. Same with mangled animals, kidnapped kids, people who have disappeared years ago… etc. It is not public TV, you know? If it was someone I knew, OK. Of course. But complete strangers to the poster and me? If you are trying to appear socially conscious, it is not working.

I don’t mind if I agree or disagree with you, as long as you are expressing your own thoughts.

A friend gets up in middle of night while overseas to posts his feelings/thoughts to facebook about his girlfriend while she is asleep. My wife and I get a little worried about him so she asks him is he is okay. When he hears that she read his post he is upset and says that post was “personal” and didn’t want people knowing about what he was thinking. He later deleted it.
:loco:

Meanwhile I avoid wife’s friends who now must pause several times during any activity to post photos and comments of what they are doing RIGHT NOW. Not possible to wait till they get home to include the 20 photos of the food at dinner. I sortof liked them before facebook turned them into minute-by-minute reporters of their own life in words and pictures. Their focus is turning away from enjoying time with friends into using friends as an excuse to have an activity to talk about themselves.

Nope, but I wish I did. I do not like Timeline, no sir.

I posted something on Facebook a couple of weeks ago that mentioned that it was important for photographers in Taiwan who consider themselves professional to have the necessary work permits, ARC etc that allow you to legally work here. The statement was posted among a bunch of other stuff - it was more-or-less a throwaway line that should have gone without saying. In response at least one photographer friend unfriended me over it (that I know of), and I got a bunch of anonymous blog spam about it. It’s incredible that stuff posted on Facebook can cause people to react like that. If you don’t like it, just ignore it.

The only people on my Facebook are fellow students from school who i did NOT hang out with. So I just took myself off of Facebook years ago.

Dont need it, dont miss it. Nobody to friend, nobody to unfriend.

I wish FB would prohibit pictures of food. It drives me crazy looking at pics of plates of crap they eat on a daily basis. I don’t care. Can’t they derive some kind of anti-food algorithm?

I hate the use of the word “nom” to mean delicious. I can just about tolerate that crap from my friends kids who are young adults but this is a middle aged man.
Oh and then there’s the “jesus loves you” type crap. No he doesn’t. You believe in him, I don’t keep it to yourself.

I think I already posted it but here it is again … FB is like the CB radio (citizen band 27 Mhz) rash from the 80’s, everyone wanted to buy one … to do what? Just chat about how the kids and the pets were! Radio wave pollution … now (FB and all other ‘social’ stuff) should be called cyber pollution!

Why do complete strangers whom I’ve never met want to be my friend?

I presently have a half-dozen friend requests pending and I have no idea who any of them are.

Flattering, I suppose (although they’re obviously not very discriminating in selecting friends), but I think I’ll decline the invitations.

I’d like to have more requests from lovely (local) young ladies instead of the request I get form ugly male foreigners and older men …

I get contact requests on Skype from generals. I wonder what kind of scam they are running?
