Our good friend and musical colleague, Stevie “Ray”, was recently struck by tragedy. His entire home literally went up in flames. Along with all his worldly possessions, he lost his beloved dog, and his beloved SRV limited edition Stratocaster guitar.
We can’t replace his dog, but we can try to help replace his guitar. On Friday night, the Living Room is hosting a benefit show featuring many of Stevie’s musical friends in a night of jazz, blues, and rock and roll.
All door proceeds and $50 from each Heineken beer sold will go towards the “Friends of Stevie Burnt Guitar Fund”. We hope with the cash we raise Stevie can buy a new guitar, get his feet back on the ground, and start playing music again.
Please come out and support us on Friday! Bring all your friends, support the music, and drink as much Heinekin as you possibly can.
Featuring:
The Blues Vibrations
Bopomofo Blues Band
Corbett Wall 高培華
David Chen & the Muddy Basin Ramblers
Brian Kleinsmith

Bad Elements featuring the chief
Time: 10:00pm - 1:00am
Donation: $200 (proceeds go to Stevie for a new guitar)
On behalf of The Bad Elements, I’d like to say that we’re proud to be associated with this hella worthy cause and are looking deeply forward to sharing the stage with so many of our rockin’ pals.
I strongly urge you all to come on out.
Stevie is a wonderful cat who has been diligently making the scene for years in Taipei, working his can off to contradict the common perception that “local bands don’t rock”.
He deserves everyone’s support, and it’s going to be a fucking blast too.
Be there or be tetrahedral.
As it says in the message header, Jan. 12. As it says in the text, Friday. As I say here, that’s tomorrow. Hee hee!
It’ll be fun. We’re on early, though, because I’ve got Saturday morning taichi. Hope you’ll come along.
Just got in, had loadsa fun. Too pished to give a proper analysis, but all the bands were GREAT. High points included The Muddy Basin Ramblers, The Baaaad Elements, Abe and the cool guitar guy, Sky Burial- ‘Since I’ve been lovin’ you’ and some guy who wanted to get fucked in the ass, ㄅㄆㄇㄈ, and of course, the man himself, Steve. Amazing guitar player. Sorry for your trouble, hope you’re back on your feet soon.
Thanks all for the best fun I’ve had in ages. Those who operate that piece of machinery known as the electric guitar shall be exalted above all men. Thus spake Buttercup.
That was the bestest fucking night I’ve had for a lonnnnnnnnnng time.
(even though smelly Stray Dog was there)
Anyone who didn’t go missed out like you wouldn’t believe.
I’m still getting over the quality (and quantity) of great performances.
Fantastic to catch up with a lot of friends and see some of them play too.
Also great to meet some new people, including the very nice David Chen, Robyn, Doctor Evil, Brian (or is it Bryan?), Stevie himself, and a few others whose names I didn’t get (or maybe I forgot, sorry).
Yeah, was indeed a good one. There is some real talent out there in Taipei. By talent I don’t mean Irishstu’s ability to stink out the room at 20 paces, but the likes of the guitar guy who went on walkabout from Blues Vibration, The Shoddy Wasteful Panhandlers, The Bad Elements, Sky Burial…
I hope Stevie had a good night and hope I can see something similar again soon :bravo:
Brian “Hinkley” Kleinsmith rocked on “Since I Been Lovin’ You” and Sky Burial was a kick as usual - although I could’ve done without another performance of the Stones’ C.S. Blues.
Not much into blues, but the Chicago Blues band that followed them (think they were called “Bo Po Mo Fo” ?!?) really jammed. The singer and backup vocalist both had incredible pipes!
Was also great to see former Swampus rocker Kevin (aka Hank aka Snake - not sure what alias he’s going by now) up on stage again.
Unfortunately had to miss most of Stevie’s show but will definitely catch him in the future. Hope he’s getting back on his feet ok…
