Fruit and vegetables compared

Is there any important difference in nutrirional value between fruit and vegetables? I’ve never been very big on fruit, and living in Taiwan has not changed that for me, but I’ll eat any green vegetable put in front of me and always ask for more. My wife says that I’m a picky eater, but I prefer to say that I’m spoiled for choice. Is my diet missing something important from not eating more fruit?

At last, something I know the answer to!

It’s easy, just like cats and dogs, fruits and vegetables are actually the same, except that fruits are girls and vegetables are boys.

You’re welcome.

and only a bisexual diet is healthy

And although you’re probably already aware, Stu, potatoes are royalty, although they’re actually girls.

Oh, it’s another tag team bash the Yank session is it? Been here before. Well, here’s my virtual buttcheeks for you barbarians to kick (or kiss) :moon:

Oh, all RIGHT then, if you insist.

I’m sure if you’re eating lots of vegetables but no fruit you’re not doing yourself any harm. No veggies AND no fruit wouldn’t be good, though.

Anyway, here’s a link from Harvard, which is a Yank organization (I picked it out specially) that seems to group them as a single group in diestary terms. Interesting reading, actually.

Few cooked veggies, actually none that I know of, maintain their vitamins once they reach boiling temps.

Fruits, as they are usually eat in an uncooked state, unless you’re making a pie, keep their nutritional goodness for your body to soak up and use.

Tomatoes I think are the exception - they are more nutritious cooked than raw. I think thats right.

So for nutritions sake…eat them veggies raw.

The veggies that is…not yourself…oh never mind.

I’ve been eating an apple, an orange, and a banana a day along with a completely unbalanced diet and I feel great!

I think the fact that fruit is usually served raw has a lot to do with it’s nutritionalness. Yes that is a real word. I invented it.

Ha! Now I think we’re getting somewhere.

Indubitably… nutrishinalness is the crux of the biscuit. I guess I need to find another fruit besides guava to like. Damn I miss those Vermont apples that are in season now.

Well, steamed is always better than boiled when it comes to veggies, the rule is pretty much don’t over cook them as that makes them as healthy as boild potatoes. Not that it’s anything wrong with potatoes, but there’s not much nutrition in them once boiled to bits.
Anyhow, Fruit has some different vitamins than Veg, although it depends on the type of fruit and veg.
