Just booked on CX (Cathay) return Taipei-Amsterdam … 9,000NT$ fuel surcharge (25% of the ticket price) … same on EVA, and CI …
And believe it or not, China airlines with its known history is the most expensive overall …
That seems pretty cheap. The ticket, not the surcharge. I thought that fuel charges were ALREADY built into the ticket price. From flight 1. Mabey the just need to point out that fuel is so expensive that it’s a quarter of the cost for the flight?
Fuel surcharges are what airlines add when the price of oil suddenly goes up. They theoretically go up and down to but often lag behind real fuel prices. Last year fuel surcharges were very low but they are rising again. I bought my ticket to Canada as early as I could this year as my agent warned me fuel taxes were going up. BP, you have been dinged.
Been what?
I called several travel agents … similar price, give or take a few hundred NT$ … same fuel surcharge …

I meant hit with the increase not overcharged or ripped off.
Dang those surcharges but the airlines need them to survive, their profit margin is razor thin. HOw much is gasoline over on the wan these days? Ours have been climbing and climbing, each time i pump up it jumps up. Yesterday was bout 4.25 a gallon for regular 87 octane
