Who wouldn’t accept USD in Canada? I mean sure you get a crappy rate like 1:1, but what you lose in cash value you gain in convenience. :rainbow:

Obesity rose before the interwebs were a thing.

I’d be inclined to agree, but the rise of the social media was the equivalent of handing a megaphone to everyone with a double-digit IQ. Obesity really took off after it became possible to get the ā€œyou should love yourself as you are and other people are bigots if they don’t love you tooā€ message out there to a billion impressionable teenagers.

Back when it was possible to shame fat people for being fat, they at least had some motivation not to get (or remain) fat. Although the other side of that coin is that the vast majority of fat people have absolutely no idea why they are fat, because as far as they’re concerned they’re following all the health advice. It’s never occurred to them that that advice was crafted with the explicit intent of selling lots of fattening food to stupid people.

Totally OT, of course. As you were, people.

I have a different take the obesity epidemic. We are getting bad advice. I remember when the US changed to the food pyramid with high carbs and low fat and that was the beginning of us getting fatter. Also, people started feeding their kids snacks at games. When I was a kid, we didn’t eat so many snacks and drink juice boxes. Then, doctors are giving people insulin which makes you fat and blaming the patient who are eating low calorie frequent small meals and still gaining. My metabolism had adjusted to the low calories and I had to water fast for 3 days to get started. I also think I was prediabetic. Not until I tried IF, did things click for me. Still people criticize me if I eat bacon or a hunk of butter in my coffee or skip breakfast even though I’m clearly healthier. I also have a hard time accepting this new way of eating for me. It was bittersweet to hear my mother say I must have a secret to getting my eating under control knowing that I eat more calories today and still losing. Almost like I’m worthy now that I’m thin. I’m the same person. Being overweight isn’t a badge of honor. Thinking our bodies work like calculators is equally stupid because experiments show that weight loss isn’t working like the common narrative being pushed by the medical community.

Wendy’s is absolutely savage. Whoever runs the official Twitter is an insult artist.

I’ve recently started and I’m liking it. I think it’s a good fit for me. I’m relaxed with it. I like to call my approach ā€œeating less foodā€

I’m not really disagreeing with you because we have the same general opinion here but I don’t think people are fat because of the media - I think the media is saying that being fat is fine and healthy and desirable because…people are fat. You see the same things in politics - tell people what they want to hear and they watch your programs and engage in your content.

Of course this feeds back into itself and I don’t know the way off the crazy train - I don’t think it’s that widespread off the internet as 80% of the people I know in the US are of healthy weight.

Oh I 100% agree. People who write that sort of nonsense like:ā€œit’s ok to Be 160cm and 210kg, it’s the others who are superficial bigots for considering you to be fat!ā€ are doing so for the extra clicks they can get. Which leads people with the mass of the Death Star to buy into that narrative, and so on and so forth.

Free helicopter rides for people who write harmful stuff are always an option!

ā€œI’m not a Nazi, butā€¦ā€

It’s ok to disagree on things. This is the internet, its sole purpose is to allow people to have arguments and throw homophobic/racist slurs at each other.
