That was me as a kid. Every dang tv show and B movie had people getting sucked down in quicksand. Literally every show. It was so scary that we used to look for it in mud everywhere: next to ponds, creeks, marshland, you name it. We even hopped into it as strong as we could, esp if it pulled at our shoes. Alas, we never ran into the real deal.

Radiolab did an entire podcast on quicksand and why it was so famous years ago but has now faded into obscurity.

Nice podcast. Fun part when they talked about the quicksand seekers online groups in the thread they categorize worldwide quicksand spots by permeability, depth, privacy, if there are parking by lots nearby hahaha
I can definitely remember being concerned by the idea of quicksand. It never seemed likely that we would encounter any in our local woods though.
