I think it’s making fun of how the mainstream media fact checks claims that are silly or nobody really claimed in the first place. but I guess that if that were the intention then we would see fact checkers in the front line and there’s none?

Contronyms are cool, and I believe I’ve thought of another (I’ve never seen it on a list of them): strike means both to hit something, and to miss hitting something (in baseball)
