I read Maus over the weekend because of the “ban” in schools. Thing is, it’s great news for the book. It should be read, widely. However, it’s also good news that the book wasn’t banned. It was recommended to NOT be taught in the lower grades. High school only, due to the non erotic cartoon breastical nudity of Nadja’s dead body, dead of suicide and a couple of wangs in the showers in Auschwitz. As supplemental Holocaust readings go, I’d say it is instrumental in helping understand what the Nazis did and the toll it took on people. Better discussions in high school than middle school I’d say. The trope is that the school board are ignorant hicks. Meh. Maybe for some other reasons, but not this one, imo.
