hey ya’ll. ran into something possibly of interest to you. the local berlitz office her in st.louis advertised for a chinese language teacher. having a degree in chinese and several years in greater china i popped in to see what was up.
berlitz pays US$9 per 40 minute session or $12 per one hour session depending on how you wanna slice it. you may have to travel to boeing or other corpoate locations as part of the job. expect to work about three hours a day max. sundays and holidays are in play if needed.

Is this average pay?
With the rate of pay they’re offering, it sounds to me that they are not looking for a college grad, or anyone with experience, to teach that class. You can do better.
happily, you are all correct. i went more out of curiosity than need. grade schoolers with lawnmowers make more than offered at the aforementioned institution.
My info too is that they do not hire non-native speakers as teachers, but that may vary depending on how hard up they are for teachers (and being that your gradeschool friend who cuts grass makes more money, that may be “very hard up for teachers” indeed!)
