Now, I know there are plenty of foreigners who live in Taizhong, so it seems strange to me that they would want to live there if they are constantly in danger of being beaten within an inch of their lives.
I recently spoke to a foreigner who told me he used to own a club in Taizhong, up until a few months ago when he moved to Taipei. He told me that over the course of the three years he spent in Taizhong, he saw numerous foreigners severely beaten by gangsters.
The stories seemed unbelievable to me. He said that one time, a foreigner was rude to the doorman at one club, so when the foreigner went to another club later that night, a group of gangsters showed up and beat the hell out of the foreigner and all of his friends.
He also told me that Taizhong is controlled by gangsters and that the police are in on everything. So what could possibly attract foreigners to this city?
Not all foreigners go to clubs. Of those that do, not all get beaten up.
You heard that a guy got beat up by gangsters? I heard that a guy got beaten up in Taipei. So what could possibly attract foreigners to that city?
I also know of someone who got attacked in Edinburgh. So why one earth would anyone choose to live there or even visit?
All that Gangsta,Gangsta talk and foreigners being a target for beatings is a fairy tale! Sure if one gets absolutely wasted and then goes into a bar and pull jokes on people that are equally hammered, chances for troubles are high. This is how most fights with the so called Gangsta, Gangsta people start. There are certain places in every city on every continent that one better avoids, places not cities. Sure there are Gangsta, Gangsta people around but sure the least thing they are interested is to beat up a foreigner, he does not get any money out of that.
I feel that Taiwanese culture itself is permeated with “gangster mentality”. I would even generalize that most Confucian societies are structured and expressed through “gangster ethics”.
What’s the gangster difference between Taichung and Taipei? Osaka or Hong Kong? Ho Chi Mihn City or Bangkok or Seoul? Hahahaha…it doesn’t seem like much to me. In the pub, the classroom, the living room…the hospital.
(Identity from the group. Being a bully. Using force and coercion, that is provided from one’s group, to acquire things and meet one’s goals. Using destructive tactics for simple gain. “Taking” instead of “making”. Resolving conflict through violence.)

What’s the gangster difference between Taichung and Taipei?[/quote]The difference is that in Taipei, if someone turns the kitchen light on the cockroaches go hide under the refridgerator…
Allright, went to Taichung to find out myself! Will start looking out for Gangsta , Gangsta people perhaps I will find some hiding under the pool tables in one of the dozen Pubs I am planning to go to tonight! If I find some, I will take them back to Taipei perhaps we can them raffle them off on Sunday. Will keep you truly posted!
This is pretty far off, even for internet rumormongering. Did he mention the part where one of the foreigners in the group trying to get into the club backhanded the doorman? Did he explain that the rudeness to the doorman entailed from a dispute over whether or not foreigners have to pay the cover charge on a Saturday night? (They do, but they were drunk and belligerent and didn’t want to.)
Sure, Day time at the office opposite from Bodega, after work at the Bodega, Chubby’s, Londoner and yes I never go to the Lion King or the Pig Pen to wrap up this topic.
