Hey everyone i haven’t posted in a long time…i’ve been really sick…from gastrtis…which is inflammation fo the stomach linging similar to an ulcer…i was jsut wondering if anyone out there had this problem…please shaer your expereience wtih me…how long does it take to heal? thanks

Go to McDonald’s and get a decent meal inside of you and switch to Heineken instead of that stuff from the rusty blue stripy cans and you’ll be ship-shape in no time. :smiley:

I had a mild case of it a few years ago and it cleared up pretty quickly (under 2 weeks) with the medicine I was given (and staying away from alcohol and spicy foods for a while). I believe the medicine was the same type of acid reducer (H2 blocker) used in Pepcid. Proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole are also used for gastric ulcers. If it does turn out you have an ulcer, you should ask your doctor about testing and treatment of Helicobacter pylori, which is often associated with stomach ulcers. Treatment usually includes a proton pump inhibitor and antibiotics for a couple of weeks.

I had ulcers in college from not sleeping, eating, exercising, and drinking too much coffee and soft drinks. Taking ulcer medications, graduating, and reversing my college problems cured me in about 4 years. I thought it was a life-long condition but it eventually healed itself. Many Endoscopies followed the up and down progress. The Endoscopies were great motivators to change my lifestyle

Excuse my ignorance but what are the symptoms of gastritis / ulcer?

Follow that link I posted above for more details, but people with acute gastritis have 1 or more of the following:

upper abdominal pain
abdominal indigestion
loss of appetite
nausea
vomiting
vomiting blood or coffee-ground like material
dark stools
hiccups

Hey, I got that one summer back in 76, but I was doing a bottle of dark rum a day, so I thought it was normal. Just goes to show.

Anyone know where to find e.g. omeprazole 10mg Merck NM (Scand Pharm) or any other closely related medicine?

I tried the pharmacies that came up on a search (shanghai on hengyang rd, and the one on lishui st). None of the seemed very well sorted, especially Shanghai was a disappointment, (the only thing they could “produce” was a strong dosage variant of losec). Are there any well sorted pharmacies in Taipei? I guess I will have to spend 5h in a doctors waiting room…

Any chemist here should have Omezol, “Yang2 Ning2”.

Yogurt helps a lot. Sugar free with live cultures.
Also, Watermellllon helps to level the acid level. What is bad for your body but good for nasea is salt. When things get to where you think you will puke all day long, eat something with a little salt on it. I don’t know why, but this always helped me.
