Gastropod of the day?

I took a piccie, but it didn’t work out.
Last night down at Lieutenant Dan Park, I saw a snail whose shell was, I shit you not, bigger than my friggin fist.
I swear, it was the size of a friggin rat.

try putting that out as a ‘couch for sale’ in the classifieds section. You might get lucky.

They got some huge snails here, I hear they eat them too. I seen one whenever they have those spring/autumn rains.

I see those uber humongo ones all the time after a good rain. Always terrified of stepping on one…

Fuck that, I was scared of it stepping on friggin ME

Here’s a screencap from a video I took of a tennis ball-sized one eating a leaf in Daan Park a while back.

I’d post the video itself for the hot chewing action, but you can hear me narrating with “munch munch munch munch”

It turns out I actually have quite a few photos of big boys to contribute. Probably because they are so slow and easy to capture!

Lucky you!

OK, that’s not such a good stereotype.

Ah, no. Full of nematode parasites. Don’t do it!

My friend sent me a picture of this monstrosity today. They’re really loving all the rain.

Those big ones are giant African land snails, and they’re a nasty invasive species filled with nasty parasites.

So what you’re saying is, when I see one of these really big ones, I should rear back and kick it as hard as I can?

I would never condone violence, but definitely don’t touch them.

Yes. With anger. Use your heal as bigger ones dont break easy. ive pulled something in my foot before stupidly trying to stomp a big one with my toe end of the boot. That was embarrasing. Doctor totally understood.

Gag!! Aren’t all their vital organs in that shell? I think stomping on them would really sicken me…

The sound alone is incredibly nauseating.

It is quite apparent on at least 3 of your senses during the process. Crush and move along…

Sometimes they fly out from under you, can have pretty strong shells!

If you get one filled with eggs, more like a firework type experience. The eggs are delicious and more expensive

Despite my efforts I’ve always managed to crunch a couple on walks lately
