(OUR STORY SO FAR…so about an hour after DB had posted his most helpful input yesterday morning, a typically mutton-handed Mod disappears the whole fucking thread! Anyways, we’re going to try this again, we’ve already got Yen Ping (Yanping) N. Rd as a possible location, and the fabric market on Dihua for possible webbing.)
So I’m replacing the strap on a favourite bag.
I need some place where I can go and browse just hardware, like d-rings, Chicago screws, dog clips, slider buckles, even clip buckles, all that kind of stuff.
Also webbing straps, if possible.
Thanks
I saw a place like that once. Damn, where was it? Somewhere (extremely vaguely) in the vicinity of Yanping and Civil Boulevard, perhaps? I’ll have a look through my name cards when I get home to see if I got one from them. It was about 7 years ago that I saw them.
Dragonbabe brought some heavy canvas straps home from a fabric market (not the Dihua St. one, I don’t think, but they should have it too) so you might try there, if you want canvas webbing.
I’ve got some heavy oiled boot sides, hole puncher and a strap cutter if you want a leather strap. Or you can convert a belt.

Yeah, I wondered about up there on Cam Ping N. Rd. (hyuk, get it?), sounds reasonable.
I don’t know where there are any fabric markets.
In the past, I always cannibalised old gear, but I don’t have any lying around right now.
Leather, I’m OK for, many thanks.
Ever since irishstu had that second kid, he can’t ever come out and play, so all his old harness gear is just sitting…erm, never mind…
Cannibalise that strap you use to hold that red ball in your mouth.
Have a search for Dihua St. or ‘fabric market’ here.
There’s a place on Xinyi Road quite near Bliss that sells handmade leather bags and stuff. I don’t know if they sell parts and hardware, but the folks there might be able to point you in a helpful direction.
Peace!
Hi Chief, you could have edited your post to replace it, rather than starting a new thread.
I’ve merged them.
Anyway, Dragonbabe has scrounged up the namecard for a store NEAR Di2hua4 Jie1 迪化街 where she did see strap and bag hardware:
介良裡布行
台北市 民樂街 11號 Taibei, Min2le4 Jie1, #11.
That’s a street on one side of the Yong3le4 Market, which is very near the Di2hua4 St. fabric market.
phone 2558-0718, 2556-1806, open Mon-Sat 10am-6:30pm.
She also found heavy off-white canvas webbing suitable for, say, shopping bag straps, but not wide enough for a big man’s bag, at the following store. I don’t know whether they also had wider webbing or not, and she’s not here right now so I can’t ask her:
陳德和號
迪化街 Dihua St. Fabric Market
Sec. 1, #21, 2F, #57.
