Get a ticket if you check phone while waiting on stop light riding scooter

I read an article the other day where the scooter driver got a ticket because he looked at his phone while waiting on the read light.

I got pulled over today for the same reason. More than 60 seconds remaining at the red light but the officer motioned me over to the curb. I was told that you are not allowed to look at the phone even for GPS.

I didn’t get a ticket. I am thinking because I don’t speak Chinese is the reason they let me off.

They have it mounted on the scooter. Not sure if that matters.
Might be you only get a ticket if you take it in your hand.

So its a “hands free” type situation?

I never understood how taxis, uber, food panda etc gets away with their borderline communist invasion level of crappy driving! It’s literally terrifying, even moreso than the regular taiwan roadway skillsets.

I think they have to see if it is open. It can be mounted but you cannot watch the GPS on its screen. Better to use a blue tooth ear phone for GPS. I will ask my brother in law next time I see him.

Chabuduo at its best here.

That is correct. You can’t have it in your hand, it’s fine if it’s mounted and you’re typing away at it at the stop light.

Since the law was brought out I have been sitting behind a police car in Taipei city on a busy road when the light changed and the driver just sat there blocking the road because he was still checking his phone
