I just got a haircut from my local barber. It’s one of those 200nt shops with old lady barbers. When they finish up, they always use this shaving blade to clean up the side burns, ears, baby hairs etc. While rounding my ears, she accidentally cut my ear. Surprisingly there was a decent amount of blood and it took awhile for it to clot up.
The first thing I did when I got home was use rubbing alcohol and soaked the entire area. Then I applied some petroleum jelly. I found out later that the rubbing alcohol has been expired for a LONG time. The label said it expired in 93, which is like 6 years ago. This isn’t a big deal right? Then I applied some petroleum jelly.
During my previous haircuts, I would always foresee something like this happening. And today it finally happened. My main worry is the cut getting infected. Just Imagine how many customers and how long the blade has been used. And also how many people have been accidentally cut by that blade. It’s a scary thought. I’m really worried about contracting some serious illnesses maybe even STDs. Any one out there to put me at ease?
You know, I always worried about this myself, although never to the point of actually telling the lady not to use it - God forbid I hurt her feelings!
I think there’s a good chance these places change out the blades at least once a day - although there are surely those that use them longer, I have noticed that every time I get my haircut, the blade is pretty damn sharp, so I don’t think the place I go uses them too long anyway. These blades are cheap enough, and customers wouldn’t be happy with a dull blade, so I think your risk is probably pretty low.
From now on it’s probably best off to say no need to use the razor blade - 我不用刀片, 我怕被割到. wo3 bu2yao4 yong4 dao1pian4, wo3 pa4 bei4 ge1dao4. And then she’ll inevitably tell you not to worry, because you’ve insulted her ability to use a razor blade now, so counter with “沒關係, 我還是不用, 謝謝” mei2guan1xi1, wo3 hai2shi4 bu2yong4, xie4xie4. At least that’s my new game plan haha.
Who the hell cares if they get insulted? Just when they start whipping out the razor stand up and wave your hand. If they get real insulted, pay and leave and never come back. There’s like 500000 of those places. If you were anywhere in the world and had to get worried about offending the proprietor to the point where you take a wound, then it’s not worth it.
